There was one thing that Meiji never expected, and that was to pass her fortieth birthday. For many amongst the Kusanagi under the Dragon died young in the battles against the Orochi and the other Yokai clans to secure and maintain their dominance. For forty two years she endured, surviving the loss of the end of her tail and her left arm, suffering the punishments for failure and the torment of realizing what her victories meant, cruel losses due to who she was.

Now, despite the bitter kisses of the sakura that signify the transience of the life of the warrior, she finds in her forties she has found something that she only experienced for the briefest of times as a young child.
