This is a photograph of Valentine, the fursuit I constructed myself nearly a year ago for Anthrocon. I remember having promised to upload some photos of him after AC last year, but I think I didn't have any good ones. Came across this one in a gallery from Eurofurence 14, and figured I'd show the suit off, like i said i would. The photo was taken by

I think most artists despise their older work, and this is no different for me. I am proud that i made the suit, and had the experience, but i really barely wear it anymore, I haven't for at least 8 months. I see so many flaws in it now. Blah. Hmmm. oh well. More fursuits to come perhaps!

lol I like it, never imagined your character to be orange though, thats the only problem I see is the coloring. It was very nice talking to you, I must say you're very talented and funny. Hope to chat it up again soon. Love the art work, especially the yaoi, its actually very precious and sweet. I really like the fact that your character is original and not something we've seen ver and over again
Hahaha everybody that is on that picture I know xD. Including myself in the back with JD :P. And... This makes me wonder, cause we didn't danced together this year because we kept on missing eachother O.o. Was I really that blind not to have noticed you? o.o
Strange...
Anyway, great suit :3. Hope to see it again at EF this year!

The artist's dilemma is that his works cannot be completed; yet when he enters their presence they cry out incessantly, like sirens, for completion. That way madness lies, so he must either force himself view them through philistine eyes, or walk away.

Well hey, can't expect to be perfect off the bat. Maybe it's not the best suit out there but it's still damn good compared to some people who make good money making them. >.> *cough* I actually think it's very attractive!
And if ya keep doing it, the results will keep getting better. :P

I had the same feeling with my first suit (which didn't turn out as nicely as your's) and I spent years picking apart my own work on him until I finally sat down and fixed everything I felt was wrong with the suit, and then sold it. It's kind of a given you'll always pick on your own work. That's part of why I sold off the suits I made because I was just constantly revisiting them, so it made more sense to take what I learned and move on to new projects.
If it has Fluke inside it, it is awesome :P
Anyway for those who want more of the suit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEGL0mJvlZc

Really nice work me thinks! ^^ i know you may not want to, and for that reason i say you shouldn't answer if you dont want to. But what mistakes are there. Cause i honestly think it looks really good. But since I've never built a suit i'd like to learn what things would be considered bad b professionals like yourself. again, if you dont fel liek talking about that sort of thing, then dont. I'll figure it out in time XD
fur too fluffy, cheeks too fat, muzzle to bulbous, eyebrows too thick, ears far too thick, colors are too vibrant. I still kinda like the eyes, but there needs to be more detail surrounding them, they feel like they are just stuck on to me. That's the sort of stuff that I see flawed in my work, things i expect i shall improve on next time I try a suit.
No such thing as too fluffy, muzzle looks good wide even if it's not the style you want, eyebrows are expressive and should have emphasis, ears definitely too thick -- cannot be nibbled on!--, have you seen the neon fursuits?, too much eye detail draws too much attention to them, which is bad because there's only so much you can do to make fursuit eyes look good, and that usually from a distance.
Besides, look at the crappy suits behind you!

Glad you're still proud of this, and glad you're going to keep moving forward. Good luck, and don't forget to wear a thimble!

awww, i also have to agreed with 2edged, no such thing as too fluffy. And i've seen colors way more vibrant than that, that actually seems tamer and i like it ^^. i dont think that the muzzle and eyebrows are bad, or at least the eyebrows. Its of course all personal preference. I think you'll make an awesome suit again, but i can't say this is a bad suit either ^^; . Thanks for noting what you didnt like though, something to keep in mind for myself. thanks again, and best of luck to you. :>
I commissioned this lying thief
matrices to make me an artwork in the summer of 2008. Its been a year and I still have not received it. All she ever did when I contacted her over email, live journal and on here was block me and tell me to "go fuck yourself, stupid wetback."
For the record, the paid commission price was $45.00 and was supposed to be a con badge featuring my character.

Although you might get down on your own work, as long as it's stuff you are aware of to improve next time, that's cool. Sometimes suit builders have high expectations, and may fall short of that goal, others only see the finished product, not the idea in your head.
For a first suit, Valentine is damn impressive. The fluffy bright fur is just going with what's available, but I like the vibrant color, since it goes with the way you light up the dance floor. I've got a similar lavender fur on Twilight and it gets unruly easily. Bulbous muzzle and thick ears are resulting from not taking into account the bulk that the fur will add when carving the head. It looks just the way you want until you add the fur - any sharp angles of the carved foam is dulled by the bulk.
Additionally it might sound like a cop-out, but when I'm performing I try to keep moving, active and, well, ALIVE so people don't pay attention to flaws. I love the way you carry yourself with such comfort and confidence when in suit, at least from what I'd seen on dance video. I hope you try again soon! Do you think you'd redo Valentine, or create another character as a fresh start?
Are you going to EF? Rainfurrest? Hope to see you around!

I actually think the suit looks great, I don't see many flaws aside from the ears perhaps. I'm in the process of making a suit for myself actually, and I was curious where you purchased the fur for this suit at. Also, is Valentine orange and tan? He really doesn't look that outrageously colored, I think it looks nice. Regards!
