Final Fantasy and Exile also makes you decide of your own party.

The company who remade them made a better project that recreated it, in isometric view instead of square-tile based. They called it Avernum. There're 4 Exile games, but at least 7 Avernum games... one of which is Blades (Blades of Exile, Blades of Avernum) which allows for scenario addons, and quest creations.

Yup. The first game has its own story (Spent in medeval underground), the sequel has a nice touch to the story as well, and slightly more creativity in terms of party creation.

The third one shines, as after being able to access the underground world that was present in the other two installments, gives you one big mission, and whether you take it or not is up to you. It involves exploring the surface world, and while you have a powerful and dangerous mission, the world direly needs saving.

Blades comes with three pre-made scenarios (Only the first one being available via the demo, but that quest itself is long enough and so much fun to be enjoyable as a whole) and a lot of them can be downloaded on their website if you have the registered version (Downloadable)

Predictably, I made one that featured the Quetzen. :D

In Ultima 3 you could have something like 20 different characters per save that you could swap in and out of your party of 4. It also had more depth to the character creation than, say, Final Fantasy. Too bad the battles took freakin' forever unless you knew all the tricks.
