I learned a few things in the production of this model. One: Don't subdivide your models with impunity. Two: Don't mirror things if your center point isn't set properly. Three: Sleep is for wusses.
This took me about 20 hours all told but I'm new and considering redoing it already. I learned so much between when I started and when I finished even just the head render. Blender is the man.

Second, don't subdivide unless you HAVE to. If you're just smoothing it out for rendering, add a subsurf modifier instead.
