BEHOLD A TINY GHARREN.
Hey guys, I've mentioned a serious project for Highborn in passing to a few people in comments and have been pretty hush hush (unless you follow my twitter and it spoiled the surprise)
After completing the first chapter (purposely a short one) of Highborn, I decided I was ready to really take it one as a serious project. I want to be able to put my heart body and soul into this so that I can write a story that I feel people might enjoy. Because of this, I've decided to open up a Patreon for Highborn.
HOLD UP, PLEASE READ.
Nothing of my posting schedule will change for highborn, and no pages will be withheld EVER! I intend to make sure that this Patreon thing is purely a positive aspect of my work, instead, I've set up stretch goals based on the idea of having more time to work on Highborn based on it becoming my primary form of income. I want to maybe someday do this comic fulltime and actually churn out 3 pages per week (as insane as that sounds) and I really think I could do it too! if I scheduled myself and worked fulltime on it, I definitely could get the story and comic flowing at that sort of pace, but I'd need to devote all my time on it, and that means it would need support me.
Back when Patreon first launched, I saw people jump on like a bandwagon of "get paid to do what you love" and that soon turned into "get paid to do whatever you want". I saw people putting paywalls and restrictions on their work and it really made me frown, I draw because I love to, and I show it off because I want to, I have some rather choice opinions about crowdfunding in general.
1. I feel that people who get supported should have a specific product or service that the patrons can see, and actively want to support before ever considering crowd funding.
2. I feel that I needed to make sure I actually had something of worth before even considering it, I don't think Patreon should be something that people do on a whim
3. Paywalls and patron only content feels inherently wrong to me, therefore I will not use such methods to seek revenue.
4. I feel like having anyone support my work at all is something I should be grateful for.
Basically, if you like my work, want to see it more often, and have a couple spare bucks a month, I'd be flattered if any of you chose to support me. No one has to, this could just be a blink and you missed it type thing, this doesn't mean I will stop working on Highborn. I will continue to work on it with the higher level of quality shown here on a weekly basis regardless. Things will only start to change in positive ways if I hit a stretchgoal.
The Patreon can be found here: https://www.patreon.com/Highborn
Also, I've added a few rewards and would like some feedback about them, I've never done this sort of thing so I haven't a clue what a reasonable pricerange of different reward tiers should be.
ALSO, ALSO, even if you don't feel like supporting, can't right now, or never want to, please leave me feedback, I want to know if this is a good idea or not, and how I can improve. I seriously haven't had readers before, so this is all really new to me! and I care about what you think of me and my choices about the comic!

yay! and I would only ever do once a month. per page would be bonkers, can you imagine getting paid 4 times a month? I only need to make enough money to let me relax and focus on the comic, not make me rich, I've seriously only listed stretch goals up to 3000 which is I'll look into publishing hardcopies, but seriously, after that what in the world am I going to do with it? might as well give the extra to charity or something at that point.
yay the once a month does seem like a good idea
then i have some questions about the reward tiers and goals
first: tier 1 ($1), tier 4 ($15), and tier 5 ($20) seem fine to me
tier 2 ($5) this tier says you get access to the live stream anytime you live stream the comic. but isn't that the same as the $50 goal and the $1000 goal? or are they slightly different in some way
tier 3 ($10) this tier is like the second tier where it seems to coincide with the goals which is the $100 goal and the $300 goal. does this reward only come into effect when those goals are met or does the voting they get differ from the goal voting
tier 6 ($30) just seems lame with the reward only being for a minimum of 1 page and only being in the background. i just feel that for the 2nd highest tier they should get a minor character role where they're in it a bit , but over all not too important to the story. for what you have i think maybe lowering the tier for this one would be better since only 1 page is guaranteed
- one example i can think of is from a comic called "Caves and Critters" by ryan goldfur. although i don't think its an actual cameo or minor patron character, it can fit the idea... in one chapter they went to a blacksmith to get armor made/repaired and met the blacksmith ivan (minor character in ch 7) who made the armor, added new magic arts exposition, had a sex scene, all of which was about 8 pages total. but over all he didn't do much for the story and was just there for info and sex.
tier 7 ($50) seems great since there more then just extras (minor/major character now) but is this open to everyone who pledges $50 or is it limited to 1 person or more? might be good to show there's a limit to have many people can receive the reward if that's the case.
everything else seems good to me right now. (sorry if this is long)
also young Gharren is so cute, plus he still has his wings. also idk why but his outfit makes me think hes from a wealthy family.

Okay!! I like your idea of lowering the cameo slot, i did plan on reusing cameos sometimes or giving a sort of round robin for characters, but you do have a point. I'll put it on the tier below it and snarf that tier.
The milestones are for definite scheduled content. (As it stands I'll do maybe one livestream per month until I see enough interest to start really actively show my works progress)
As for voting, currently I've been deciding certain things with dice rolls. When i start getting those sort of patrons, I'm gonna start posting up votes instead, but without that milestone reached it won't.be a regularly scheduled thing (if that makes any sense)
I really seriously appreciate your help with getting me exposure and critique. I feel you're a large part of why this comic is possible.
