This is my nepenthes alata. Which is to say my tropical pitcher plant. It's my second one, I've had a nepenthes ventrata for a while.

I <3 carnivorous plants.

He he he he. No, but really big ones have been known to eat mice, rats, frogs, and lizards.

I haven't had a chance to pry the pots up out of their little terrarium boxes and see what they're planted in. But the top dressing you can see there is sphagnum moss, which is pretty common for growing carnivorous plants.

I see it's a small pot in a plexi glass enclosure. almost looked like a block of stuff in there, thought that was something special it was growing in.

Ah. Well, you can grow them in some pretty funky mixtures, I know that you can tissue culture them in those culturing gels and so on. They have those plant keychains that are all the rage lately that have plants in gel medium. Nothing quite so exotic here though.

well allot of plants will grow in just a sponge floating in water or even a Styrofoam float with a hole for the roots. :P thats what hydroponics is at it's most basic concept.
