Endless Realms bestiary - Apollyon
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
The art director requested a few more baddies for the bestiary, specifically more demonic Koros, and asked if I could come up with a few concepts myself. Named after Abaddon's Greek counterpart, Apollyon is the archdemon of destruction who is worshipped by the ravenous, insectoid Havok posted yesterday. Lord of oblivion and ruination, Apollyon longs only to spread death and destruction, to unbalance and unmake, and is feared by other demons as his desire to bring oblivion to all things is greater even than his demonic malevolence or hatred for the angelic Aethir - he will even work with angels from time to time if he thinks it may bring ruin or upset the cosmic balance of the universe.
This guy was a lot of fun to design - I wanted at least one Koros to be somewhat Lovecraftian and horrific in form, rather than simply another bestial humanoid. He sort of makes me think of something from Dark Souls, or maybe the final form of a Final Fantasy end boss :b

the first thing I thought of was that this should definitely replace Ridley in Metroid.... like holy crappppp this is amazing, freaky and I don't want to be close to it... its a lot closer to the metroids themselves, and a lot more freaky then a purple dragon... and yea its definitely more cosmic looking otherwise I wouldn't of said Metroid
