New or reclaimed from industry materials: Deerskin, antlers
Secondhand/recycled materials: Acrylic paint, leather, foam
Description: This is a one of a kind headdress that I created from the hide of a deer. It's the first one I've created with antlers mounted inside, using a method of my own devising rather than using non-biodegradable materials like foam head forms and plastic ear liners. The only non-biodegradable parts are the artificial sinew used for sewing, and secondhand foam padding that I took from an old taxidermy rug.
Instead of having all the weight of this headdress on the wearer's neck, it has additional body straps to take the bulk of the weight. The head is a bit heavy, though again less so than if I'd used traditional, non-biodegradable taxidermy supplies. You WILL want to spend some time practicing wearing this before taking it to events, and you do need to tie the head on pretty firmly; it's better for walking and standing than headbanging, but once you get the hang of the balance it's nice to wear. Will fit most adults--keep in mind I'm pretty short, and so I left some slack in the neck for taller people. Measures 48" from tip of nose to edge of cape.
Price: $800
