When they don't they sometimes end up conducting those chaotic energies - through themselves.
Lucky here ended up turning into a "weird", an elemental the Izzet create by fusing opposing elements together.
He'll probably figure it out eventually and reoconstitute his body, or become a power-hungry weird-mage and ascend through the Izzet Hierarchy.
