He's named after the constellation Pyxis which is featured on his torso and back. Pyxis is one of the 3 constellations which makes up the Argo. It represents the nautical compass. He helps those lost in the darkness by guiding them to safety with his starlight.

Pyxis has 2 sets of wings, one at his back and one at his hips, to help him maintain a stable hover in the night sky. He's even been known to carry riders on his back between his sets of wings via a small leather saddle. His coat reflects the night sky for optimal visibility of his main constellation marking "Pyxis" which glows brightly along with his eyes and horns. One of his horns is broken. The origin of the damage is unknown. His base coat is naturally a dark variegated midnight blue to match his claws.

Pyxis enjoys playing hide and seek and will often use his reflective coat to his advantage while playing at night and can be found playing innocent pranks on the unsuspecting at times. His favorite animal is the lightening bug/firefly which he originally thought were supernatural beings who could produce lightening and fire. When Thistle explained they were harmless insects he was sorely disappointed, but can still be found frolicking with them in the summer sky.
Pyxis can often be found lazing throughout the day and shares a friendly companionship with Thistle.
