I used to love the way Lulu looked, but over the years I realized that it was really only focused on literally one aspect of the design. I'm sure you know the area that I'm speaking about.
Tetsuya Nomura went so fucking ham with the belts with Lulu, and overall I find the design to be incredibly overwrought. With the several completely random things in her hair, her multiple piercings, and the gajillion (almost literally) belts, it's just too much.
I strove to keep her regality, elegance, sensuality, and black magic in place.
-Head/Hair: I simplified the bun and shortened her hair in general. The covered left eye I kept. The only things in her hair now are the two chopsticks and a bun clip. I kept her main pair of earrings and the purple lipstick.
-Torso: I separated her belt-dress into different segments. I kept one belt, just because. I moved the fur up top into a more compact shawl structure that covers her shoulders. She wears separate sleeves and gloves. The gloves are something I prefer on my spellcasters, and they complement her mature air.
-Lower Body: They are not shown, but I would guess she's wearing heels in the game. I turned the belt nonsense into a slit, and trimmed the bottom with fur instead of the convoluted FFX patterning that is on every surface in that game. I replaced her lace stockings with solid black thigh-highs. It's not practical for a traveling with a summoner, but it's still more practical than the 8-hour getup she had before.
Weapon: I dislike the goofy-looking big-nose moogles. I pumped up the cute factor with it because the dolls are all wonderful contrasts to everything that Lulu exudes. I went with slit eyes instead of stitch-eyes, but everything else is pretty much par-for-the-course stuffed animal business.
Let me know what you guys think of my take on Lulu and if there's a classic female character you'd like to see me take on for my next redesign.
