Heh. Nah. On my Lacquers and automotive finishes I use my Paasche model H single action airbrush. The trick is painting one layer at a time and letting it dry thoroughly.
Are you familiar with Roger Dean, the Artist who painted all those Yes record album covers among other things? In one of his first commercial works he used metallic paints to impress the client, and the colors didn't photo transfer well. Thus, I try to stay away from using actual metallic hues on my 2-D artwork, and try to suggest the colors and dazzle things up with reflections and highlights, much as you have here.
