The assassin who lurks in the night, she strikes with a swift blade. With a form bordering beast and man, she ascends to a greater level. She is the dark counterpart to Taomon. The deadly warrior who stalks the shadows…Spectermon. She fights tooth and nail to protect her tamer, and will even tear the very soul out of her enemies to do so. But this power belies something even greater hiding beneath the surface…
Unlike Rune’s previous forms, Spectermon is a brand new design created just for the character. The main influence was the Dark Brotherhood assassins from Skyrim, and a little Starcraft for the blade arm. But to pull Spectermon back to her roots as a Renamon, the Yin Yang symbol was added in. Her multiple tails to act as a transition from a feral Kyubimon to a more human-like state. The wolf head hood helps to bridge the gap as well. The armor on the blade arm was quite interesting to design. I learned quite a bit about how shoulder armor works. And I did something unusual. I made a 3D model of the armor and then superimposed that over the image to get the angles correct. Some details that are difficult to see are the metal claws that she wears on her blade hand and the circuit patter that covers the flame hand.
I’m happy with how this turned out. The double light source was really tricky, but I think I pulled it off well. I wanted to experiment there and try to create a more unusual and memorable setup. I hope the softer lighting coming from the blade doesn’t take away from the image. I hope you enjoy it, ThornWolf33! It sure was a long time coming for this Digivolution.
