Go out and hug your servicemen today.
And hopefully this combats that shitty and shameful banner.

I have to agree with your points. it was officially supposed to be on the 30th, right?
furthermore, is everyone on FA from the United States? (rhetorical question. answer's no) memorial day is a US federal holiday. Douglas Adams it a man whose work is known at least in the US and UK. why make a banner that would only be suited for people from the US, despite the likelihood the majority are from the US?
would i be more interested in, say, a furry recreation of a war event like, I dunno, the raising of the flag of Iwo Jima or the invasion of Normandy? sure. why not. but I mean come on

Well okay... but Thanksgiving is also an American holiday and Halloween is pretty much an American holiday too (although I think due to globalization it has creeped its way into different cultures), but I haven't heard anyone who was bothered by the fact that banners were made for these two holidays. So is Mother's Day in fact, and what?... That's not even a federal holiday that's a HALLMARK holiday, yet they've still made banners honoring those three holidays.
And the idea of remembering the fallen from the military can be embraced by any culture that has a military.

well. my main issue wasn't the choice of holiday. if I was so passionate about FA not choosing to display banners that represent American-only holidays, I would've raised issues with said banners on said holidays. if I was, I wouldn't have made a suggestion about something I'd be more interested in (I wouldn't mind seeing something that celebrates Memorial Day). the issue I have is with the apparent outrage that they did nothing for Memorial Day and chose to observe Towel Day instead, as if Fur Affinity is absolutely required to observe and have banners displaying that it is Memorial Day, and not doing so is some sort of immeasurable wrong.
either way, I would be perfectly fine with them doing Towel Day today, and doing Memorial Day on the actual day. I think that would be a fair thing to diffuse this entire situation

Well... I'm going to fully admit that I am biased in this situation because I do have members of my family who are (and were, my grandfather is a WWII vet) in the military. Mostly there's just something that rubs me the wrong way in honoring the death of a sci-fi author (if you read the side-bar, that's what this thing is about really) over the deaths members of the military.
I have a member of my family that was in the military, too. (perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not given the time, my grandfather was also a WWII vet. London). I did read the sidebar. I still say if you do Towel Day on the 25th and Memorial Day on the 30th, everything would be alright. the 30th truly is the official day as established then the when the day was first made, so .. well .. I think that'd be a totally fair compromise. going by original date as opposed to calendar date
The fact is though, that not many people know that... and I'm guessing that if the majority of the people did not know that, then Dragoneer wouldn't know it. I'm guessing that he thinks it's on the 25th like a lot of other people do.
Now... I could be wrong. And if he does put up a Memorial Day banner on the 30th, then I'll say good for him. In my opinion then, he would do the right thing, if he did that. And even if he does put up a Memorial Day banner later just to "appease" those who wanted one, then at least we'll know that at least he's taking the sentiments of the community into account (unlike the way he handled the fatfur fetish Thanksgiving banner controversy, where he posted "To those who are offended by this, click on this link and voice your opinion on this forum" and it led to a Rickroll. That was a stupid and immature move on his part, in my opinion. He could have just had it actually link to a forum where people could voice their discontent, but this is all old news).

It would be nice if a Memorial Day banner would be posted. That way Douglas Adams gets his day, Memorial Day gets its day and this whole mess can be put behind. but, and I remember part of Thanksgiving, if it doesn't happen.. well.. there's always next year. to be completely blunt, the man cant die two years in a row
This reminds me of that letter written from the point of view of an aborted fetus.
In fact, tell you what. Preface this with "this was found in the will of a young soldier from <insert state here> who was serving a tour of duty in <Iraq/Afghanistan>, and was killed by a <IED/Suicide bomber/Jihadist/Tragic lockerroom accident>." Mail it to a bunch of idiots. I guarantee in three weeks it will be on Snopes.com, in everyone's inbox and possibly on Fox News.
