Gender: Female
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 140lbs
Species: Eastern Cottontail/English Spot rabbit hybrid
Physical Description: Niamh has light brown fur with white fur running down her front from the underside of her muzzle across her belly. She has brown eyes and long red hair, and her fur deepens from light to dark brown along the length of her forearms and lower legs.
Biographical Data
Niamh is the queen consort of Cearnach Kingdom. Married to Ciara Lohan nine summers earlier, she is not only the first rabbit in the history of Viridis to marry a fox, but the first non-fox to ever become part of the Cearnach royal family. She is both honored and slightly baffled by her newfound status, as despite having been born into the Oseille royal family, she never expected to actually hold a position of influence. She is well liked by her new subjects, however, and she is seen as a much needed calming influence on her wife.
She dislikes talking about her childhood. Born in the wilderness 28 years ago, she and her elder sister Fiachra were left to fend for themselves when she was three years old, after her father murdered their mother and vanished. She and Fiachra were rescued and raised by their maternal grandmother Saoirse, She enjoyed a happy and relatively normal childhood, but her early experiences had a profound effect on her. She is very protective of children, and anyone who is weak or helpless, and she has spent much of her life studying medicine to better help those in need.
She is not without her playful side, however, and she enjoys jokes and harmless pranks. She was an enthusiastic adventurer in her youth, and she has followed Ciara on almost all of her adventures. On her days off, she enjoys wandering through the many forests that dot Viridis, and she can often be found hunting for mushrooms or gathering herbs and supplies for various medicines.
Personal Statement
My name is Niamh. Just Niamh, please. You can save all that 'Your Majesty' stuff for later. If you must. Everyone says that a queen, or even just a queen consort, must maintain a certain level of decorum, and yes, I was raised to be royalty. More or less. but it's so rare I get to just sit and talk to someone who isn't Ciara, or her mother. Yes, believe it or not, I actually get along quite well with Deirdre. I think I'm one of the few who do. Anyway. I'm here because of Ciara, you know. But I never really cared that she was a princess. I don't think she ever did, either. She was just my friend and I loved her, and I never cared what happened to us so long as we got to be together. I still don't.
Nine years, and people are still trying to figure out all of the ramifications of my marriage to her. It means Oseille and Cearnach are allies now, especially now Ciara has taken the throne. Which throws a thousand years of carefully balanced power structures right out the window. Seems to me it's better now. Seems to me that everyone would be better off as friends. But I guess we'll see what happens. Life is a grand adventure, and the best thing to do is embrace it head on, and that's exactly what I mean to do.

I've always liked Niamh. She's definitely what I think most people would expect when they think of a queen. Contrasted to Ciara she's much more calm and measured in her approaches. Ciara is driven by passion whereas I think Niamh is more driven by logic though of course they each have both but one is more in dominance than the other.
Together they form an ideal couple. Like most relationships they're different enough so that their relationship is full of spice and interest yet their differences complement each other. No doubt Ciara brings out the adventurer in Niamh and Niamh offers a reserved counsel when the situation calls for a contemplative response.
I would expect that Ciara relies greatly on her especially in moments of diplomacy. I suspect such instances are when Niamh shines far more than Ciara who I believe while she's capable of it prefers paws on solutions to her problems.

That's pretty much Ciara and Niamh in a nutshell, yeah. While Niamh does have an adventurous streak, enough to be attracted to Ciara and to enjoy their adventures together, she is meant to be rather calmer and more thoughtful than Ciara is. She's certainly better at diplomacy and soothing hot tempers, which her wife and mother-in-law are often better at provoking. Which isn't to say she won't stand up for herself if need be, as many foxes have been surprised to find out. In fact, one of the reasons why Deirdre likes her so much is she's willing to stand up for herself in an argument, and isn't the least bit intimidated by predator species.
Probably her best talent is keeping Ciara from getting into too much trouble, and patching the girl back together when necessary. Ciara relies on her a lot for advice and for the fact that Niamh is never shy about telling her when she's being foolish. Though it's certainly true that Ciara repays this by bringing out a certain amount of fire and spirit in Niamh, too, and I flatter myself to think they work quite well together. They're certainly my favorite couple to write for. I'm really glad that so much of this shines through so clearly, too!

If it's not something that has been done already, perhaps a future idea might be for Ciara to be left at the negotiating table somewhere else while Niamh has to play hardball with a superior military force. :) Just a thought. Particularly in the second Ciara story their relationship really gets to flourish more as a casual development rather than the pace that needed to be kept in the first so it's nice to see them interacting when they have more time to just be themselves.
Species, sexist, and racist judgments are all things Lauren would find a hard time comprehending. While there are still plenty of things to have conflicts about Lauren would never quite understand why someone being a predator, female, or from another region would have anything to do with how a person is regarded. She understands national/species pride, sure, but to assume things about someone due to factors they can't control is something she would never quite comprehend.
I imagine Niamh goes through quite a bit of band aids. I suspect some of her interest in plants is to find herbal remedies and other things she can use to patch Ciara and her relatives up. Those foxes do tend to run headfirst towards trouble. They're such fiery little things. :) Even though I didn't get as much time to play with them as I would have preferred, they were easy to work with and gave plenty of places for me to go. ;)

That definitely sounds like something she needs to do. And yeah, I think she and Ciara really worked a lot better in the second story. I had more chance to explore their relationship, and I knew them better by then. I'm hoping that will carry over into the new one I've been working on, and help keep them interesting.
Lauren comes from a rather more enlightened society, I'm afraid. While outright bigotry is rare on Viridis, such that things like blatant persecution or segregation are almost unheard of, and frowned upon, the people there have always had a tendency to be a bit clannish. It likely helps that Oseille has never had a proper military until Bleu establishes one, and have relied on their neutrality and their economic influence to protect them. So people don't think of rabbits as fighters. Things are changing, though, and old perceptions are being challenged and overturned where needed. As noted, the foxes of Cearnach are really quite fond of Niamh and she has provided a great example of the concept that people are more than just their sex or their species. So there's maybe some hope for Viridis to eventually become as enlightened as the Talwyn in that regard.
She most definitely does! You've seen how reckless Ciara can be sometimes, and how prone she is to acting first and thinking afterward. So much of what Niamh knows of medicine she learned from treating Ciara. But I think they both enjoy it, as it does give them time to be alone together. Which can be hard to come by sometimes. I'm really glad you enjoyed working with them, too, and you really did a great job with both of them!

Maybe something for book 5. :) We'd have to brainstorm a good place in the plotline. ;) The thing was in the second one you got to see them more casually, which was nice and a good place for that to happen.
Especially given that the Talwyn will probably be diplomatic friends after the events of Blue Symphony and taking down Caspian. :)
I think you still have yet to check out the conclusion of the novella, as I don't recall if you have gotten to part 4. ;)

It's okay, you know I still owe you some reading and other stuff... It's hard to move forward lately. Should have written today, kind of didn't... Got editing done last night for another story so that's something... Hopefully can do some video work today or tomorrow. Got one vid to shoot and some stuff to compile.
I hope we can figure out what we're doing soon so I can start releasing/plugging this stuff. :)
