With the war and its aftermath came a new wave of tenants, which carried the house into the Space Age. By then three more decades had passed, and it was time for another makeover. Like so many “restorations” of the time, this one proved to be extensive, expensive, and to a significant degree misguided. The old fabric-insulated wiring was replaced. The nursery was replaced by a master bathroom and a second full bath. This forced a relocation of the master bedroom's closet to the wall adjacent to the turret. All the ceilings had acoustic “cottage cheese” sprayed on them.
Shown is the upper floor after the second renovation. Major changes are visible, most notably the addition of the two bathrooms. This caused some difficulty with the added weight of the plumbing and fixtures, requiring reinforcement of the load-bearing walls underneath.
