Actually this Nekomata in Nioh is Hanzo's (the ninja) Guardian Spirit, And it acts as a guide in the Game, till a certain point. Still wish it was an actually Guardian Spirit to equip.

OH!! Well that makes a lot of sense then. I haven't played the game.
But the real life Hattori Hanzo was also known as Oni or Demon Hanzo. XD

I didn't know their was a real life version, I'm only using the knowledge I had from the game. Did you know in the game his father turned into a big frog yokai I had to fight as a boss, It was difficult.
