It is important to trust your inner knowledge in this moment while avoiding the influence of anyone who may have hidden agendas. You may have a moment of loss such as a move or a loss of a relationship, but this is only a new beginning. It may even be a sacrifice you yourself have to willingly make, creating this new rebirth. Now is moving into a time of plenty for yourself to share with others. People who connect with Salmon are wise beyond their years, with others often looking to them for advice. These individuals may seem distant or even a bit odd, but others are attracted to them regardless and always seem to know where they are going and how to get there.
Salmon are omnivorous fish that live between 3-5 years in the wild, often growing up to 33 inches long and weighing around 5-15 pounds. There are seven Pacific Salmon species such as the Sockeye or Red Salmon which is known for their bright orange meat when eaten and sporting silver flanks with black speckles and a bluish top, earning another name of Blueback Salmon. Salmon live in the Northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. These fish are Anadromous meaning they are born in fresh water, swimming to the ocean for one to four years to feed on smaller creatures such as zooplankton before returning to fresh water to reproduce or "spawn". Each species of Salmon varies largely in appearance such as the Cherry Salmon with bright red strips or the Chum Salmon with a silver-blue color. Many of the Salmon species change color when living in freshwater or saltwater. The Sockeye Salmon will stay in the habitat they are born in for up to three years which is longer than any other species of Salmon and are the third most abundant of the species of Pacific Salmon. When Sockeye Salmon return to their breeding grounds to lay eggs, they turn a shocking red color with a bright green head. Males of a breeding age will have a distinct humped back and hooked jaws possessing many tiny, sharp teeth. As with all Salmon, after the breeding and spawning portion of their life, they have run out of energy and will die. The young spawn will eat a diet of invertebrates, plankton, and insects while the older adult Salmon eat eels, shrimp, and squid. The Sockeye Salmon is the most unique in eating almost entirely plankton. A few species and subspecies of Salmon such as the Danube and the Kokanee Salmon spend their entire lives in freshwater without the iconic migration to and from the salt water oceans. When reproducing, the female will use her tail to create a small depression in the riverbed in which to lay her eggs. She will create up to 7 depressions in the riverbed until she has deposited all of her eggs. The male Salmon will swim along fertilizing the eggs and covering the depression to hide them before moving on to fertilize another pile of eggs.
