Meet Lyra, a Calico shark/cat hybrid I adopted after her owner didn't feel related to her anymore.
Hosted by Iris after she was in trouble to find a place.
These two friends then became friends with benefits then girlfriends.

Lyra belong to me, please don't use her without asking
For the ones who want to know her story, as an adopt :
Since I'm in this fandom (not very long, I admit), I always told myself I would never make an adopt, Iris is my personnal furry, I feel extremely related to her and didn't want to have several fursonas.
One day, I see this very cute shark, I fav her, and start watching her owner.
I don't know how much time later, while reading my journal entries, I see her owner is selling her, because she want to buy her previous fursona back and to have the money for this, sells Lyra.
Being tendered by the cuteness of the fursona, and having compassion for her owner, I did not buy her, I made a donation to the owner, so she can get her main fursona back, without having to sell Lyra.
Time passed, and I saw, in journals again, Lyra was put for adopt.
Very surprised, I contacted her owner, she explained me since she got back her main fursona, she didn't feel related to Lyra anymore, their "connection" was lost, and she wanted to get rid of her.
So I changed my mind, I took her, such a cuttie need love and to be took care of.
I didn't adopted her as "one of my fursonas", even if she's technically one, my only fursona, for me, is Iris, I only host Lyra as you host a friend in your flat because he was homeless.
That's that analogy who gave me the idea of her story with Iris, to set up a relation between these two.

I get how you feel about buying characters/character designs from artists/other people.
I am kind of in the same situation, I really want to make up original characters myself for any future comic stories but I ended up buying/adopting characters from others. (one reason is is because I have a bit difficulty visualizing character ideas within my mind)
Not planning to make it a habit though, as you mention yourself also I really would not want to have loads of chars for the sake of just owning. I really want to do something with them.
The few I did buy are going to remain it, the rest will all be own creations.

Thank you
But I think you still don't understand how I feel
Iris is not just a fursona, it's my personnal furry, I'm more related to her than to anybody else, she's a part of me, the expression of the "me inside", the me I wish I could be.
So It's not even about proper creation, it's about identity, I can find other fursonas badass, or cute (as Lyra), it's not the same feeling/relation at all.
I don't feel the need or desire to have several fursonas.
But life is full of surprises
