They're great little birds, even if most classify them as "trash birds." Hunt lots of bugs, and they sing so prettily (they're relatives of the mynah.)

Oh, I'm all in favor of birds and all, but this makes it rather difficult if I want to grill something.

When this happened to me I got out the drill and brass wire fabric and made some barriers. But then again I didn't have an egg present. A lot of states forbid you messing with the nest once an egg is laid.

I checked, and that's not an issue with starling or sparrow nests. So, I'll mull over a relocation effort.

Not to be totally insensitive to the birds... but it is just a starling Try moving the nest into a similarly made cover and see what happens.

I may hang a basket from a nearby treelimb with the nest in it, see if that works out.

What ever you do, I recomend you wear gloves, to prevent as much of your scent as possible from tranfering to the nest and egg, the bird may not want to have it back if there is too thick of another's scent on it.

*I* recommend you wear gloves because birds crap all over everything.

Relocation is the best way to go. The idea I had is - shall we say - a smidgen draconian.

Involving cranking the knobs to high and hitting the ignition button, no doubt.

Reminds me of when we lived in Florida, and a pair of wrens kept trying to build their nest in our garage. Problem was, they were building it inside the box that housed the garage-door light bulb on the ceiling. Since it was a fire hazard, Mike pulled it out and threw it away. Witnessing this, the wrens screamed abuse at Mike every time they saw him from that moment on. "NESTWRECKER! NESTWRECKER!" At least there was no egg in it.

Heh. I'm heading to Philly for a week or so; since I wasn't planning any grilling, I think I'll let the grill stay a bird condo until I get back. :)

You're lucky, I had a very pissed Raccoon and some babies in mine.

They were okay after they realized I wouldn't cook them alive and brought out treats to them. I like them as 'pseudo-pets.' Can't bring them in the house, but welcome company. ^_^

make sure wear gloves when moving it or the momma wont go back to it once they smell outsiders on the nest they abondon them usually
