Somewhere in the wild West, traps are set down to catch "pests" (but aren't working very well).

Airguns aren't the politic of hunters over here, they do not hunt with anything else than their dogs and rifles (and their beers and wines). In fact, the sign on the one its written "Commune en A.C.C.A" means that hunters are authorised to hunt in this area, so they legitimately can use rifles with real ammos (which I find really stupid). But the problem is that most of the rabbits made their burrow within the enclosure of a military and civilian aeronautical society which is a bit top-secret, so hunters will not be authorised there. After, the airport used to hire some people to hunt within the enclosure of the airport with ferrets.
(Sorry, I finished the reply, I had accidently posted the previous message)
There is this, but there also is the fact that France is a very rural country and often mayors of this kind of cities are hunters, so it's one of the most important and powerful lobby in France. As for the airport, those hunters with their ferrets were used at the time the airport was exploited by a private society, it was before the local Chambre of Commerce which was exploiting it, but then, with less and less help from the governement, one of the biggest lobby of the transport in France, Vinci, became the new operator and have only in mind to ruin the airport and the civil activity on it, they are well known in France to do, lately, some of the biggest shits in the Western France, a dozen of years ago they built a huge motorway which only made the journey between Paris and Pau 10 minutes faster than before, the project costed billions, they passed over protected areas, so none take it excepted some Parisians so it's very expensive which make that even less people take it, result: it's a huge loss-making as there never are anyone on it, even transport societies avoid it because of the price and of the uselessness. Few years ago, they built a railway which should have started from Paris and should have ended at Barcelone, Spain, it passed, again, over many protected areas, none wanted of it, as for the motorway it only decreased the journey of 15 minutes and it finally have been shortened from Paris to Bordeaux because of the huge costs of this stupid project, it has costed billions when for few millions they could have modified the former abandonned railways, result: it's again a loss-making as, on top of not being very frequented, it increased the train ticket in the whole country, train was already expensive but it's now unaffordable for people like me, it nearly twice less expensive for me to take the plane to London than to take the train to Nantes which is only 3h of car from where I live. And currently, they are fighting to build an airport over another protected area to replace two other aiports, none want of it, it will again cost billions but they still will have the right to built because the CEO of the society is very good friend of most of the politics and, as such, has their support and their liberty-supressor police... :/

That sucks a bag of $&@! I'm not completely unfamiliar tho, in my city of Denver Colorado USA, we recently had massive highway expansion to cram in toll lanes that were shoved down our throats without a public vote. The taxpayers paid hundreds of millions for them, and the proceeds all go to the private company who did the work. And they don't alleviate ANY of the congestion for the bulk of motorists who won't or can't pay the toll.
As to the rabbits, I still think airguns are the solution. Traps are indiscriminate, and will catch the foxes too! A good quality air rifle will humanely dispatch small game at 50+m with ease, and will do so quietly so as to not spook any others. Another thing is until you get into big bore .30 cal or larger, there's little or no fear of property damage or injury on a missed shot (much unlike with a firearm )
Once the rabbits are controlled, the foxes will naturally diminish, if they were a problem to begin with.

Unfortunately, the voice of the people doesn't count anymore, if it ever did, only the voice of a minor party which lives outside and far away from the reality...
And well, it would probably help for the rabbits, but for the foxes, it's more complicated as they are considered in France as "pest", which is very stupid as farmers (and by the way hunters) does complain that their fields are infested of mices and of other rodents of this kind but they keep over hunting foxes...

Well, we are at least both on the same page with not hunting foxes being the right answer!
I'm actually quite saddened by the fact that foxes are still considered 'pests' in France. Are they really that much of a problem?
Here in the states, they are legal game as 'fur bearers' with only limited restrictions for hunting, but are considered part of the ecology and given some protection above invasive species such as European collared doves, and hogs.

Foxes aren't much of a problem, people are the problem but they prefer report the fault on foxes than to assume their. People in rural environnement does complain mostly about foxes because they would come and catch their chickens but they can't even shut away their chickens. Plus, I've got a good friend who have find the solution to this problem, he lets some ham outside, foxes come take the ham and nothing else. And there's somrthing to now, is that I already saw in village a person who have lost all their chickens in one night, around two dozens of chickens, they found all of them beheaded in the henhouse, the days which followed, the hunters of the area organised a big beat for foxes, excepted that, first, foxes don't kill around twenty chickens in once and, secondly, they do not kill just for fun, as humans do. I would bet my life that the famous fox was more something like a neighbour with who the had a problem. Otherwise, I've not heard of any other problems with them outside of some dicease they can carry such as the mange or rabies.
After, we can yell for years, it wouldn't change a thing, hunters are very "special" over here, hunting is nearly a sectarism, they cannot conceive to miss a hunting for any reasons, I've already heard of a man in wheel chair hunting boars, he would have looked intelligent if a boar ever charged him... And there also is something they really love to do, it's to hunt during the mating periods, I had a good place to see dears while they bellow but hunters came and ruined it, and the worst is that even some of them hunt of night (with powerful projectors, not night vision scopes, otherwise it wouldn't be funny), it's how I've some bullets cracking on tree trunks at only few dozens of metres of me because we were behind a group of does and just in the axis of hunters' rifles.
