Personality
Carnelian is the "strong and silent" type. She is reserved and seldom speaks unless addressed specifically. She's as grumpy, moody, and irritable as one might expect a six-thousand-year-old war veteran to be. She enjoys giving orders, but not receiving them. Those she trusts will know that she's a tired old soldier coping with grief and high-running emotions. While her heartbreak can cause her to come across as cruel at times, she is far from it; she's among the more compassionate and understanding generals that Homeworld has known, and she will take time to check on her trainees if something seems amiss with them. She is a very protective and affectionate partner.
Bio
Created 6500 years ago, Carnelian was created as a soldier like all the others, on a non-earth colony. She would rise to status quickly when she was chosen as a trainee for General Bloodstone, who trained her to be a fearsome commander, just in time for her first major conflict: Rose Quartz's Rebellion. Carnelian sought only to fight and win on earth, until she accompanied Bloodstone to the Prime Kindergarten to harvest a new batch of soldiers, where she met her first mate, Amy. Amy was an amethyst (who Carnelian herself creatively nicknamed) with an uncanny sense of compassion and kindness, and she lit up her lover's life like nothing else ever had. But, as with most wartime love stories, it was not to be. Feral fossils, gems cultivated for the express purpose of destruction and bloodshed, invaded their sleeping camp one night and Amy was dragged to her death, which sent Carnelian into an annihilation mission that brought her far from her campsite and devastated crew. Only when she found the fossil that she believed shattered Amy (which she would later realize was the wrong one) did she return, but on her way back, she stumbled upon something very unexpected: a pearl gemling, abandoned in the snow close to the camp, among the shattered fragments of her mother. Carnelian realized that the fossils had killed her mother and she had been alone in the valley for several days, so she took her and brought her back to the camp, where she intended to hand her over to a nursing pearl to care for. Instead, she became attached. Little Champagne Pearl filled the void that Amy's loss had opened up within her and, determined, Carnelian kept her alive and well for the rest of the war. When the two returned to Homeworld, Champagne was formally given to Carnelian, who raised her as her own child. Still, Amy's loss and hatred for fossils were constant thoughts on Carnelian's mind, until she met her new mate, Fossil, with whom she would have her own clutch of gemlings.
