Oldie back from when I was in the Navy a few years ago.
I joined the Navy to be a cook, but after joining I got shunted to a couple different departments as the ship required. Some jobs were, of course, better than others. When I did maintenance work that kinda sucks, but a plus to it was that I got to learn more about the ship than anyone else in my Supply division (most of the people there were utterly retarded when it came to ship systems and the basics of ship life). Working in Chemical, Biological, and Radiological defense was interesting in the subject matter, but since nothing ever happened (thankfully) it was also boring in keeping one occupied.
Security, however, was AWESOME. Easily the job I did best at while I was in the military, and easily the most rewarding.
While the ship, the USS KittyHawk (CV-63), was underway our usual outfit was camo pants and a black shirt that read 'Security'. It was kind of a take-off from the colored shirts you'd seen worn on the flight-deck by the crew up there for easy identification. But while in-port we wore full camouflaged fatigues.
This pic was taken while docked in Sydney, Australia, in the hangar-bay.

I've seen them, and followed their development and release via Military.com. I have to say that I'm jealous. The old utilities really do look like prison clothes. I'll likely be signing up in the Naval Reserves when I get done with school just because the medical, dental, and pay will be a nice supplement to paying off student loans, so I'll be able to get a couple sets for my seabag.
Aye, dental and moneys are good, though I only go to medical when they force me to. Can't stand the level of customer service at medical, and the place has... I dunno, brooding depression vibes.
But yeah, utilities will be officially gone next October, along with the working blues and whites, which is actually kind of a shame, as I enjoyed wearing the blues. Made me feel like some sort of MiB operative.

The medical service at any civilian hospital is arguably either just as bad or worse in most respects. Hospital waiting room times and brusk treatment are the same everywhere. At VA facilities and onbase centers though at least it's free.
I'll miss the working blues as well, yeah. To be honest I liked the working blues alot.
But hey, that means the working whites will be gone. That's one less PIA to worry about keeping clean.

I honestly dun even wanna discuss the PRK bit.
I've missed my opportunity at free eye laz0rs twice because two entirely different commands are retarded as hell.
Navy paying > My own moneys. Even if I end up blind.
...As I always say, whatever happens, my SGLI is in order. ;)

It's really not a matter of 'dying'. The laser is nowehere near powerful or focused enough to kill you even if they screw up horribly.
I just didn't want to have them muck up my vision. I paid full price for extensive testing, mapping of the eyes and their interiors, and then going to the best clinic in the city.
Worth it. Went from 20/210 to 20/15.

Depending upon who you're working with...More than it should be. Having an idiot work with 350 degree Fahrenheit oil makes them a hazard to be around when the ship's rocking and rolling.
But this was taken after I'd been rotated out of the galley and assigned to Security. I could still go into the galley and cook for myself if I felt like it, but it wasn't my job at that point.

Sadly...Nope. In the US Armed Forces members are paid according to paygrade. You advance in paygrade by passing rank examinations. One E-4 (fourth level of paygrade for enlisted members) gets paid the same as any other E-4. The exceptions to it are extra bonuses for high cost of living in the local area, hazard or combat pay, ect.
And most of the people I worked with were among the most inept in the kitchen you could imagine.
