Picking up from where I'd left off (back in February, 2017), I present another work of art by my late mother Sheila Shell Martinez - as my latest offering for "Throwback Thursday"...
In her past, Mom specialized in oil paintings - mostly of scenery (forests and mountains) and exotic action (mainly bull-fighting, to appease her husband - my father - Joaquin Martinez, who originally came from Spain). But once in a great while, she likes to experiment with unusual concepts in art... and this image is no exception.
This untitled work deserves to be called "Hybrid", as the strange creature depicted here is a blend of the most unlikely animals ever to be merged into one. Starting from the top down, it's got the head of a flamingo, the neck of a giraffe, the body (and tail feathers) of an ostrich, and the legs of a lion! Surrounded by some unique vegetation (flowers and other plants) and a blue sky with some clouds, this critter combination seems to adapt to its environment quite nicely.
Special thanks to my brother Glenn Martinez for taking a digital picture of Mom's oil painting of the hybrid, with his smartphone's camera.
Here are the links to some of Sheila Martinez's other works of art with fauna in them:
