Well, the whole first chapter is a flash back/nightmare the main character is having about his past. When he was 12 he saw his father shot to death by a .50 Caliber buffalo Rifle! *very messy*
The fur shooting is the bad guy and the human dude is the main character's father. The father, "Chet", was a Sheriff in a Northern New Mexican town called Brimstone. He discovered a plot that an army of outlwas planned to exicute! He was killed so that the outlaw's plan was kept secret. The assasin tried to kill the main character too but was fended off by the main character's mother, though she takes a bullet to the abdomen. The wound doesn't kill her but the bullet became lodged and unable to be removed. She ends up dieing of lead poisoning 9 months later.
After that "A.J.", the main character, lives with his uncle who is a black smith in a small Colorado town called Gunpowder Falls. A.J.'s teaches him how to stoke a good HOT fire, after all you need that skill if your a black smith!
Any way when A.J. is around 17 his uncle gets him a job working as a fireman on the Wolf Creek & Flagstone RR. A year later his uncle dies of natural causes. Then in 1881 the Gunpowder Falls Railroad had layed tracks into Gunpowder Falls. 2 years later the bought the Wolf Creek & Flagstone and that line, as well as it's employees, and it was absorbed into the GFRR. Then in 1885, A.J. is now 28 and has been promoted to Locomotive Engineer, he reluctanly takes a train down south to Brimstone New Mexico. A.J. has NEVEr set foot back in that town since the day of his father's shooting.
While there a certain Outlaw reconizes him. From that day forward his Father's past has come back to haunt him and he has to discover what his Father had and hopefully save the teritory from desaster!!!
And THAT is only the begining!

Well, A.J.'s engine crew are close friends of his, even though they're REALLY old! Leach and Fiesta are their names. Leach is an ex-Fortyniner and gunman. After being hired by the Union Pacific RR back in the 1860's to help protect the workers Railroading got into his blood and from there that became his trade.
Fiesta is a Mexican and has been OLD friend with leach. He too ws hired by the "UP RR" to protect workers. they've worked together ever since. A.J. used to be Leach's fireman when he started working for the railroad.
Oddly enough Lech ended up, by choice, going back to being a fireman and A.J. advance on to be Locomotive engineer, leach ended up Fireing for A.J.!
A.J. also has many friends in town. Most notably are Molly and Seamus. Two Irish imagrants who started a Bed & Breakfast in Gunpowder Falls.
As for a love interest, A.J. has a thing for a catgirl named Sakura. She was orphened when she was 12, her biological parents died in a train wreck. A family of human Japanese imagrants adopted her as one of their own and raised her. Now she has a "Job" working as a baggage handler at the Gunpowder Falls Railroad Depot. One day A.J. and Sakura literaly bumped inot each other. Ever since there's been a conection!

YEP! Been obssessed with trains since I was 2! (obssessed is an understatment)
My interest in trains has spured forth all the skills and tallents that make me who I am today! As odd as that may sound! And because of that I thought it would be apropriate to heavily incorperate them into the story.

Oh I like Trains that are FAR older than coal burners! I like the REALLY old Wood Burners too!
Though in the comic most of the locomotives are dominently Coal Burning. My interest in trains ranges from the 1850's up to the 1920's to 30's. Not Much of a deisel fan, I'll take a good 'ole steamer anyday!
Now I do like some of the more modern Steam locomotives from the late 40's to early 50's! The Union Pacific RR's "Challenger" and "Big Boy" locomotives were just AWSOME!!! The two largest and most powerful steam locomotives EVER MADE!!! The Big Boy weighed 560 TONS!!!
But I typicaly stick with trains between 1865 up to the turn of the century.
