Progenitors are often denied full space dominance from time to time by powerful ground defenses. There's really only one way to take out those and that's to clear an area far away and coordinate large troop deployments. In many ways it's like old battles of nation-states before, powerful assaults leading to the eventual overwhelming of the defenders or the repulsion of the attackers. To call them messy would be an understatement and both sides try to avoid these at all costs. Still, when it has to be done, it has to be done.
Progenitors often use a Universal Armored Vehicle or UAV, a powerful blend not unlike an oversized Bradly or over capacious Merkava tank. Powerful and able to fill almost all roles needed. It's often used by progenitors to ferry troops and provide sufficient firepower to engage armored vehicles. It's Magnetic cannon can alternate effectively between high and low energy, allowing it to go from main gun to heavy autocannon in seconds. It's armor though can best be described as "sufficient", with active defense systems and ablative ceramic plating canceling out missiles and laser weapons fire. These are not only effective, but efficient, cuts down on logistics and weight, easy to produce, and flexible in the field. When you hear the sound of these tracked vehicles, you know that troops and pain will follow
