In terms of these headshots for practice, i'd say you're definitely on your way to conveying such weight and emotions in your characters. In previous images i've mentioned colour and context adding to said feelings, but in these sketches by themselves, the expressions and the hand placement in particular convey the sense of sadness weighing down on him (almost literal weight by the hunched posture in the bottom right pic).

I know I believe you already do a fantastic job at such things, though I also know I don't wanna keep saying in every comment for every pic that you're already great at it (even though I just kinda did x.x) since art is always constantly changing, always striving to improve and such. So i'll just say again it seems to me you're on the right track. ^^

It's definitely one of the toughest things I've been trying to improve, since every little detail matters when it comes to conveying a certain way of feeling. My biggest hurdle will be fleshing out backgrounds to accommodate a scene like this, me thinks.
