Adventurer’s Travels: The Dueling Fools

I dared not dawdle under summons from the King, though my Necromancer cohort seemed less than impressed by mortal affairs nor did she seem bound by the urgency of the call. Instead that conjurer of black magic seemed resolved to enjoy herself and observe the skittering of the living. I’ll not lie in recounting this habit of watching townsfolk as if observe beasts for amusement concerns me. It is often I wonder if she sees me as a partner or if I lie somewhere in the realm of an amusing pet that she follows to alleviate the boredom of sealing herself within her crypt.
Regardless, I hurried away from the bulk of the crowds closer and closer to the King, who sat overlooking his royal garden. My footfalls stalled for a moment on my approach as I heard a most peculiar ruckus. It was the clank of iron to iron, but followed by loud popping and most ridiculous squealing of deflating bladders. I looked for only a moment in passing but was made aware of the King’s sense of humor as I watched more of his Knights or perhaps his fools, duel one another with balloons affixed to their heads trying to pop them as they danced and skittered around the ring.
