Just a pic I drew or a pallio o' mine involving his Imperial Guardsman Craig. In a game of 40k I played with him a while ago he had a guardsman with a plasma gun. He shot at my defiler twice, rolled two ones, and passed all of his armor checks. He was the only one to live after the defiler ripped through the squad, and he ran off the table edge.

Bah they lost the fine art of making plasma guns from the age of Doom. I doubt there is any gun quite like the BFG 9000 in Warhammer 40000, huh?

I don't trust plasma weapons as far as you can walk with them before they char you to a husk.

If the Administratum (and Adeptus Mechanicus) didn't throw a tantrum over these being lost or damaged, then I'd just suggest throwing them at the enemy and running away from the blast.
