Comic strip commission for
It was more difficult than I was expected, but much more interesting! I'm glad by the result :)
Hope you like it!
"Arcanum Hellmaw, fire dragon, Lord of the Ancient Catacombs, and master of his thralls’ every thoughts, held his future in his claws. Mist swirled and flowed through the grove of trees this early morning. The collar, bright gold and with two chains dangling from inset rivets seemed to shine in the darkness and hum through his talons.
“Once you put that on, you’re mine. Until then, you’re free to drop it and go.”
The voice was soft, gentle, and kind. It wasn’t an ultimatum, but simply stating the terms.
Arcanum swallowed, looking past the golden band at the deep blue eyes beyond. They regarded him with a curious amusement, eager to see how he’d respond. He brought his claws up, pressed the cool metal to his scales, and attached the two ends together. They made a soft snap and the collar settled into place.
The wyvern beamed at his new pet and Arcanum, now Arca to the wyvern, to his new Master, to Inq, couldn’t help but smile back. He was glad for the darkness and how it hide the blush burning his cheeks. It only got worse as Inq stretched up a wing paw to stroke those lovely scales.
“That’s my good boy,” Inq purrs as his claws trace down to touch the band around Arca’s neck. “Now, let’s get the rest of this in place.” He takes one of the thin chains in hand, loops it behind the red’s wings and trails it down his dorsal fin. When he reaches the dragon’s tail, Inq produces a second collar of the same shining gold and loops it about his new pet’s tail. With the same, magnetic click, it settles into place as though it were a living part of the dragon’s body. Inq touches the tip of the chain to the tail color and it snaps to the band and hangs there as seamlessly as though it were forged as one piece.
Arca watched, heart pounding with excitement, as the smaller, silvery-blue creature slid smoothly around to his other side and repeated the process. Once the living metal snapped into place at his tail, Inq looked back up into his pet’s eyes, his own glowing with a pale blue light. “How does it feel, my pet?”
“Perfect,” Arcanum replied, a small, sheepish smile on his face. As his owner settled down beside him and pressed his soft, furry shoulder against him, they both looked up into the night sky, ready to face the new day together".
