Many insects and arachnids have cerci. It's just they've developed differently among them all.

nope. just a small pinch. They mostly use them for unfolding their wings - earwig wings fold back up by themselves, but need help getting into the unfolded position.

It had some cool monsters, but I felt it was unnecessarily dark (in tone I mean). Like an endless kick in the balls, heh.

Even the book wasn't quite so bleak.

But, yeah, earwigs up close ARE kind of scary. :)
