Watching me? <hi-fives>
If you're not and you're seeing this as a picture of mine for the first time, I gotta let you know in case you didn't notice the watermark, this is an oooooold picture. The color job is new, but the original artwork is from 2001-ish, which explains the wonky anatomy and body proportions. Trust me, I'm much better at it nowadays, and there are 600+ examples of that on this account :)
It's a hot dry day here in this playground, and Tina's looking to get a cold drink. This garden hose has been running for some time, and its end has been sitting someplace cleaner than the ground, but it has created a huge pool of water, so nobody's went in to shut it off. But Tina's wearing her thick platform sandals, and wades right in to take advantage. Her feet won't get wet, nosiree...until she grabs the hose and attempts to get a few swigs. After that it just didn't matter how much of a wet mess she made of herself. Nobody would fault her for it though, not in this weather :)
Technical:
This pic was penciled most likely in 2001, and according to the notation in the corner I inked it in January 2002. I never made a serious effort to color it then because I didn't know how to render the water and overall wetness. I still don't really know what I'm doing (especially with that puddle she's standing in), but I'm getting closer. Last time I tried to work on this was somewhere in 2009, and added some base flat colors before abandoning it again for pretty much the same reasons. Finally, I decided to bring it out of its status as an unfinished project and just "get'er done".
Brush-inked pencils on copy paper, colored in Micrografx Picture Publisher 10.
I have a lot of pics older than this. I'm considering posting them here on FA for the benefit of my long-term watchers (and to preserve some sort of legacy), but I think I would need to enclose them in a frame clearly identifying them as coming from a long time ago so nobody gets the idea that they represent my current skill level. Another thing is that almost none of them are colored or have backdrops. On one hand I could really spruce them up a bit with a basic color job, but they'd still be old pics representing old skill sets.
This particular pic got a color job because I had started to color it a long time ago and it was always sitting in a half-finished state. For perspective, I number my art projects to organize them in my archives. My latest as of this writing (which hasn't been posted) is #402. This pic is project four.
