After the hit 1984 movie came out a novel was made that provided explanation for the Mogwai and the Gremlins and their origins; why the Mogwai changed if they ate after midnight, their instability to sun light and why they will produced Mogwais that are cruel.

According to the novel the Mogwai were created on a planet where making artificial life was a thing; their creator saw the idea of making tiny, adorable ambassadors that would spread peace across the Galaxy and that could easily reproduced on Water; he made a successful batch of 10,000 gentle Mogwais, among them Gizmo, and these were taken to 3 planets, among them Earth, to do their duty...

Unfortunately, the Mogwais were unstable and Sun light killed many of them, so to re-constitute the batch the Mogwai wet themselves only to discover they reproduced largely violent Mogwais that killed off much of the Gentle ones. The final coup de gra came when both violent and gentle Mogwais ate, turning into cocoons that would hatch into Gremlins; even the good ones change and follow the ones that were the violent Mogwai.

The Gremlins began an age of Terror on the 3 planets, and their home world cause the aliens found out (likely of the 10,000, a group remain to be adopted by the populous) which almost leveled the worlds races. The scientist that created them didn't made tests for possible side effect and for that he was detained and his fate unknown, although Gizmo does state to Billy he was punished severely before he was scared by a sound. The Mogwais that didn't became evil, had the ability to live forever, thus receiving the title of Eternals; Gizmo is one of them and has been adopted by other humans throughout history among them a Medieval Merchant and a Jewel Thief.

Is is also stated the Gremlins caused many famous disasters throughout history: the Memphis runaway escalators of 1972, the 1969 Super Bowl, the East Coast power failure of November 1965, a lesser known power failure a month later in Texas, New Mexico and Juarez, Mexico, the closing in 1963 of the New York Mirror (a newspaper that could not rid its systems of the gremlins), the 1962 collision of a runaway train, jet plane, and a seagoing tanker at Danzig, Poland, the Bay of Pigs paramilitary fiasco of 1961, the three day episode at the Onawa, Iowa, buttonhole factory in 1957, World War 2, and the disappearance of Vansk which was, until 1936, the largest city in Siberia.

Gizmo also states that of the group he came with, 2 others remain for a time on Earth, and like him, were also eternal, but they are not described. They live in hiding trying to avoid Humans and mishaps, although based on the list of events, Gizmo and the other 2 might gotten wet more than once. There may be other new Eternals that might have spawn from these events and Gizmo hadn't know them yet and hang out with the other 2; Earl, the 6th Mogwai in the film was good before he went to attack the School Teacher that made blood test on him.

In the second film Lenny and Daffy could have been good on their Mogwai stage, but Daffy was too hyper and uncontrollable and that jerk of a Guard scared him off.Lenny became friends with George, who he saw the moment he develop. If Lenny had fell close to Gizmo and saw him first he might had become another Eternal, but he was dumb and did whatever George and Mohawk ordered him to.

Both Lenny and Daffy didn't show aggressiveness in the same level Mohawk, George and Stripe did in their Mogwai stage; if the two might have been taken and tamed, they would have been living forever with Gizmo. Instead, two possible Eternal Mogwais ended up losing their lives as Gremlins.


Anyways, I made my idea of the other two...

Yin Yang, the tiny and youngest of the surviving Eternals; he is sweet, but very timid.

Cheng: the oldest and bravest of the three. His left ear was partially cut off by a violent Mogwai following the arrival.

Based on the movies, Mogwais can have various color schemes, and Daffy and Lenny seem to indicate they can have three colors; as Daffy was orange (not brown, do to the lack or proper light in the scenes) with the traditional white, but black dots and Lenny was a "grey-sh" brown with white and black dots and lines on his fur, so I gave Cheng three different colors.

Yin Yang name is for the obvious pattern on his face while Cheng is Chinese for Orange..
