Name: Flygon
Classification: Mystic
Type: Ground/dragon
Number: 330
Evolution: Trapinch – Vibrava (level 35) – Flygon (level 45)
Length: 2.0 meters
Weight: 80 kilos
Animal type: antlion
Habitat: desert
Description: Flygon are the mysterious apex predators of their habitats. Even though they are becoming more and more common in captivity, there is still much that is unknown about them. Flygon live in vast desert areas. They are also called Sanddragons and Desert Spirits, because they create sandstorms by rapidly flapping its wings. This produces a high pitched note: the Song of the Desert. Why it whips up the sand is unknown. When kept in captivity, it doesn’t display this kind of behaviour. One possibility is that Flygon itself can see through sandstorms. It creates a sandstorm to blind prey animals, then goes in for the kill. To protect itself from the sand, it has a flexible exoskeleton that even covers its eyes. It is likely that the red eye covers also function as an extra lense, but this cannot be said for certain as it is considered unethical to cut away parts of a living pokémon to see how it works. It is much larger than Vibrava. This sudden growth is possible because its exoskeleton is soft and flexible rather than hard and chitinous. Its hind legs are simple and have no toes, but its front legs can almost be considered arms. Their bite is irritating, but not deadly. For a pokémon with such a limited wingspan, Flygon is very heavy. Scientists are trying to adapt Flygons method of flying to useable technologies. Flygons hunting methods can also be observed in captivity, but social behaviour and mating are still a mystery. Flygon will eat anything they can lift, usually prey up to 20 kilos. They eat while flying, holding the prey with their paws and nibbling off little bits. It can digest everything, hair, bones, scales – the lot. When flying, their wings buzz and whistle, making it impossible to sneak up on prey. However, they are faster than almost all other desert dwellers. They dive on their prey and snatch it off the ground. A prey pokémons only hope for survival is piercing the Flygons soft exoskeleton before it gets lifted up. When the exoskeleton is broken, Flygon will usually die quickly, though in captivity direct medical attention can save them.
Flygon and it’s pre-evolution are obviously based on antlions, so that’s the line I took here, while bringing it more into the realm of a vertebrate (dragon) by giving it proper paws. Unfortunately, I know almost nothing about adult antlions. It's the larvae that are all the fun. (building sandtraps for ants? Hell yes!)
I felt a bit guilty about leaving without finishing the requests people asked for. I don't remember all of them, and I don't remember who requested it, but I'll try to do those I remember.
