The battle continues! And in the end...
It's too bad I took so long with this... If I had finished it on time, maybe we'd have seen more of long-haired bishie foxie... X3
I wanted Damien's internal monologue at the end there to basically suggest that his actions during the comic were influenced however, most likely by the island's negative aura, and that most likely he was jolted back to his senses when Magi zapped him with his electric attack.
Also, the camera flash event was merely meant to suggest that it disoriented Spencer momentarily, giving Magi just enough time to escape during the initial confusion. I wouldn't recommend it as a method of trying to defeat Spencer, both because it wouldn't last long enough aaaand being blinded by no means prevents him from wrapping his jaws around you. XD

This competition reminds me of how the Swamp (the Big Gulp chat room) was when I first found it. Virtually every character had random death ray powers because for a long time there's been a prominent pred with immense energy and physical powers and in order to stretch out the scenes even a little they need some massive power. Not that it saved them as Slag was a god mode pred, literally!
I lean toward simpler, physical characters who prey on weaker creatures (the ones who AREN'T mages, angels, etc.) and luckily that era was ending when I got there and my preds could begin to find prey that DIDN'T shoot death rays. As for this island, I can't imagine who I could have sent who wouldn't have been reduced to a burnt spot by all the magic, fireballs, lightning bolts and slime powers. Luckily I am a really lazy artist and turned down the chance to be there. I am still glad it happened, though, because some of the competitions have been extremely well drawn and/or very funny, like Stank's wacky antics. 83

Well, for that situation, I'd point out the "Chimbley Sweep" from 1-2 other OCTs I've observed. Who is, as his name suggests, a Chimney Sweep. He's a little orphan boy with no powers and no special abilities, who usually fights his battles by running away. While all of his opponents are usually superpowered evil robots, demon mages, and generally overpowered psychopaths. Yet the artist behind him generally makes it all the way to the quarter- and or semi- finals of the contests just because he's that good at delivering a story, which usually revolves around pointing out all of his opponent's obvious character cliches and flaws. For my VOCT, I'd say the closest thing to him was Stank(especially had he been minus the slime form), and I think his last Spectator Entry is the best parallel for that comparison.
So it doesn't really matter what type of powers your opponent has, you can still generally find a unique and interesting way to beat them. Misa has been accused of God-Moding more times than I can count, yet somehow all of her opponents have found ways of beating her in the end. So it isn't about who has the most badass powers, just who's the most creative and engaging in their entries. And I think you'd have been more than capable of winning matches in that regard.

Misa IS the most blatant example, yes. Going from roughly 4" tall to 100' in the time it takes someone to speak one sentence is a grotesquely overpowered, er, power. If she had done that at her normal size she'd have ended up 1500 feet tall and over a million tons! Other characters in the competition are very powerful too, just not at Misa's DBZ-like level.
When I played Star Fleet Battles I always saw all my opponent's strengths and never could see that all the ships had weaknesses, too. It's a failing of mine and it's one reason I don't play anything more competitive than cribbage. Another is that I'm a poor loser. Just as well I didn't get into this competition.
This is the first 'OCT' competition of this sort that I've seen and I am unfamiliar with the tropes involved. There are many things about the setup that irk me, like the all-powerful Strikers wandering around interfering with fights and the apparently corrupt people running the show, who I fully expect have shady motives. It seems like a horrible idea for anyone to get into a competition like this when even if you make it through the field the shadowy overlords behind it all are probably going to kill you anyway.

That would be helpful information if I was in any way disputing the outcome of the match, but unfortunately that has nothing to do with anything I said.
The point is that such a judgment was made in the first place. You can't claim that a thing has no impact on the outcome of a match when it DOES affect judges' decisions, overtly or covertly. That was and remains the entirety of my statement

To clear that event up in the easiest possible means... with that particular statement, I believe you are misinterpreting the reasoning of one judge for the reasoning of all five of the judges. This was not the case. That statement was made only by one of the judges, so it only factored in to that one person's vote during that matchup. None of the other judges really took that factor into account.
