During highschool I had done a project on a tale I found really insperational. Its called the KALEVALA. The Finnish Epic poem of their countries birth and what the end might be. Its not a book really. The whole thing is a song. A bards tale. It starts from the worlds birth, the world grows and the hero appears after a battle. He is in search for an instrament called the Sampo. There's no real description of the item or what it is supposed to be, other then it holds the key to bringing the world back into slumber. I wanted to draw interpretations of all the creatures in it a long time ago, but I forgot about it. I started to think of swans and I remembered it. This is just a crappy doodle I literally just did before heading off to class. Looking at the title up there. Its the swan of the underworld. (Yay summer classes.) Some personal work will follow this. I dunno, I'm rambling in this subission but I personally think it is a beautiful tale, because of the music it represents.
Heres an orchestarted peice that represents this creature and the underworld bellow:

Omg, wow! As a Finn I'm very glad that you've been inspired by our national epoch. I'd say your depiction of the swan of Tuonela is pretty much how I always imagined it to look like.
I assume you have read an English translation? The original Finnish version has a pretty cool, almost shamanic tempo to it, a bit like the classic hexameter. All those old words are very hard to translate. They sound pretty alien even to modern day Finnish people.

It truely is an amazing story. One of the best I've ever read. I really want to draw all the different scenes.
Yes, I did read it in english. I tried to read it in finnish, but it was very hard, but one day I will. Its one of the languages I wanted to learn. I've only gotten as far as saying hello and how do i get there. xD

Is it a fairly thin monitor? Or is it almost square?
If its thin, its LCD.
I ask because its too dark for me to make anything out of it. I can barely see anything unless I take the image into photoshop and mess around with the contrast/brightness.
And no, my monitor isn't setup wrong ;P
CRT's are the best by far for photo and video editing, yet everyone buys LCD. Go figure right? XD
