The GREATEST GORILLA of them all... KING KONG makes it to #5 in my Super Power Collection of great Heroes.
I remember when i was very young i watched the LATE, late Movie in my Mom's BEDROOM and when the name KING KONG came across the screen... I thought this was gonna be some TRIBAL movie with natives fighting american settlers... of course i sat still and watch the program... and toward the middle of the show a woman was strapped to a shrine and horns and drums roll. ruffling through the trees got me scared... and a HUGE Gorilla appears and takes the woman away in the brush.
my eyes widen and from that few minutes i was HOOKED and i sat through the 2 hours of that show... of course a stop-motion movie was the shit back in the 60's and a 6 year old tomcat it was the BEST in it's times... the 1933 adaption of KING KONG.
Later in the late 70's KING KONG was done again with Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange but to me it was really cheesy, what was more better then having a stop-motion Gorilla puppet compared to a man in a GORILLA suit? the movie had it's flaws but it was a Great flick, considered that KONG climbed the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building.
KONG made it's way to one of the GREATEST monsters of all time and even NEW YORK city had the GREAT MONKEY as it's mascot.
KONG was made once more by none other then FILM great PETER JACKSON who did the LORD OF THE RING TRILOGY. and this MOVIE completely blew me away... I saw this MOVIE 5 times in the Movie theater and i treasure it on VIDEO... I have all the FIGURES and 2 of the 18" figure from MEZCO toys... what's there not to LOVE of a 20 foot tall GORILLA protecting you from DANGER.
scuse the drool but he is what inspired me to draw GOR and other GORILLA characters

I see I am not the only one that love to go into his parents room and watch some TV when he was young. I did it mostly for the cartoons, but now and then I would go in there to watch some movies and I would fall in love each and every time I happen to find King Kong on. I think its safe to say that King Kong is the father of all gorilla characters that came after him. I know my love of the gorilla comes from him and the few gorilla characters I do have are born of that love of the big bad gorilla. Heheheh..I see you try like me not to think about that bad King Kong Vs. Godzilla. Hahaha...talk about a guy in a bad gorilla suit. And that one shot of him and the big green fighting each other as hand puppet for they were to cheap to use the actors in that shot. Oh good times. I am happy you taken the time to give the big ape of all the great apes his due.
