Ours was like that too, she was doing okay then her health started to go down and we woke up one morning to see her passed peacefully in her sleep. We had he cremated, because she was my mom's favorite cat.

I'm so sorry, I know all too well how it is to wake to a deceased pet. We went into the vet and got to spend a few minutes with him as he wandered around the small room headbumping us before it so that was at least nice, that it wasn't in a sterile looking vet room. More vet offices need rooms like that
