Quick little doodle sketch of a Pak-36 were it a bipedal walker unit fighting in North Africa. Equipped with the dreaded pak-36 anti tank cannon, and twin linked mg-42's on a small mount in the main upper torso. So I decided to draw one engaged in some night fighting, firing braces fully deployed and ejecting a spent shell casing.

I guess it would really depend on the style of walker, and the overall balance of the unit. If it was a quad or tri-pod walker balance shouldn't be an issue they would encounter, losing only a small percentage of their mass in ammunition. Bipeds depending on how stable it was could very well retain the empty casings. although, they would still be missing a decent part of weight when the projectile and propellant are expended.
