Name: J. Kay Jenkins "Jinx"
Age: 16
Species: Absol
Type: Dark
Ability: Super Luck
Item: Techno-Dread Plate
Sex: Male
Class: Sophomore
Team Position: Spirit Tracker/Point'mon
Moves:
Year 1: 1: Quick Attack 2: Pursuit 3: Double team 4: Slash
Year 2: 1: Dark Pulse 2: Detect 3: Swords Dance 4: Bite
History & Notes:
"Jinx" has been called that for as long as he can remember. Born in Hearthome City, in the Sinnoh Region, his parents moved to the Johto region soon after. Jinx's childhood was pretty normal, except for the fact that most other kids his age considered him a walking bad luck charm. Jinx's luck was always good, but those around him always seemed to suffer small misfortunes around him, which soon turned into most other kids shunning the Absol.
For his part, Jinx tends to be perfectly comfortable with being alone. Because of this, he often spent time exploring areas by himself, where his luck would prove beneficial to himself while not adversely effecting others. This lead to a rather interesting surprise when he joined the PCA and had a Porygon named Psykes asking for permission to research the Absol's odd ability to effect other's luck. Most folks tended to shun him, but here was a Porygon who seemed to find delight in studying how a stool leg would break when he sat on one near to Jinx. Even as mishaps occured to Psykes, he never once treated Jinx badly. Oh, sure, he was treated like he was being researched and studied, but never like something to be avoided.
Jinx didn't join a team since most teams seemed rather not to have the 'walking bad luck charm' on their team, and plus he was spending plenty of time helping Psykes on his research, and even learning a few things from the Porygon, taking some suggestions from him on how he should train and what areas he should focus on.
In Combat, Jinx tends to be the point'mon, being the first one into the situation. This tends to work out well, since it usually allows time for Psykes to observe the combat for his research. When researching Ghost in the field, he tends to be the lead, since he can detect paranatural disturbances. Normally he will stay at range unless provoked, but can easily switch over to melee combat if necessary. Still, he does prefer to let Hunter fight in close while the rest of the team fights from further back.
Outside of Combat, Jinx is pretty talkative. He's actually opened up quite a lot since he first met Psykes. He's even started to enjoy helping Psykes with his research and has started to help him build random pieces of equipment, although sometimes these pieces of equipment prove to be a bit suspect in performance when Jinx isn't using them.
Name: PKRS "Psykes", Psycho Kinetic Research Simulation
Age: 00010000 (Binary)
Species: Porygon2
Type: Normal
Ability: Download
Item: Techno-Dread Plate
Sex: Genderless (Male AI)
Class: Sophomore
Team Position: Technology Expert/Paranatural Researcher
Moves:
Year 1: 1: Psybeam 2: Recovery 3: Signal Beam 4: Hidden Power (Dark)
Year 2: 1: Discharge 2: Lock-on 3: Tri Attack 4: Charge Beam
History & Notes:
"Psykes" started his digital life as a simple research program on paranatural events and creatures. His 'mother', PoKERuS (Poke Kinetic Energy Runtime System), lives in Veilstone City in the Sinnoh region, and is a multiplatform research AI Porygon-Z. She also makes a really good cake. His 'childhood' was rather busy, with him helping his mother in small virtual experiments as well as doing some basic field research in different locations around the Sinnoh region. He also learned the ins and outs of working in a laboratory, while assisting the 'mon his mother worked with.
Psykes got a scholarship to attend the PCA though his mother's work, and is currently running his research subroutines on paranatural abilities, specifically Ghost-types, and also Psychic and paranatural perception. To this end, he made friends in his first year at the PCA with the Absol "Jinx", mostly because of statisically improbable events occurring around him, as well as the Riolu "Hunter", since lucarios were reported as having paranatural perception abilities and would allow perfect observational changes of the Riolu when he evolved into a lucario.
As Psykes worked with the pair individually and together, a friendship formed between him and his new associates. After his first year, Psykes decided to upgrade to a Porygon2, as well as piece together a team with his two friends, to help him do more field and combat research on paranatural subjects.
In combat, Psykes tends to rely heavily on his technology, taking his time to observe his enemy and strategize out a plan before committing himself rashly. Psykes tends to prefer to stay at range from his opponents, where he can more fully utilize his various attacks. If placed into an arranged battle, Psykes will usually have devised some course of action for the team, and tends to play a more supporting role in multi-fighter combats.
Outside of combat, Psykes is very much the geeky scientist kid. He also is very good with designing pieces of techno-equipment for the team, and tends to take the lead on building said pieces. For some parts of technology, he often has to go back to contacting his mom for random hard-to-acquire pieces. And if that doesn't get him the parts he needs, he'll just do the best he can with what he can get his digital hands on.
Name: Hunter Rios
Age: 16
Species: Lucario
Type: Fight/Steel
Ability: Inner Focus
Item: Techno-Dread Plate
Sex: Male
Class: Sophomore
Team Position: Secondary Spirit Tracker/Melee Specialist
Moves:
Year 1: 1: Foresight 2: Force Palm 3: Quick Attack 4: Brick Break
Year 2: 1: Dark Pulse 2: Detect 3: Metal Claw 4: Aura Sphere
History & Notes:
Hunter hails from Canalave City in the Sinnoh Region. Early on, Hunter wanted to grow up to be part of the Canalave Gym. Hunter had a pretty uneventful childhood, unless you count the occasional trip out to Iron Island to do some physical training. Hunter's dad worked on the docks, while his mother worked at the city's library. As a Riolu, Hunter had pretty big ambitions at becoming a great melee-focused fighter.
When he got a scholarship to attend the PCA, he jumped at the chance to go. It was there he met up with Psykes. Hunter was a bit surprised by the attention Psykes gave to him, mostly because the Porygon seemed to be interested in studying him before he evolved and then the results after evolution. The fact that Psykes was curious about the Riolu's ability to perceive emotions in a visual manner eventually landed Hunter into being studied by the Porygon as well as training with him. Eventually he met with Jinx as well, during some research combat, since Psykes wanted to study both individuals in combat.
Hunter spent plenty of time sparring with Jinx even when not helping Psykes on his paranatural research, mostly because the two were both familiar with melee combat. The fact that he spent so much time hanging out with Jinx and Psykes eventually caused him to give up on finding a team to be part of during his freshman year. He didn't mind to much though. Individual combat still was quite competitive, and it felt good to help out his Porygon pal.
Shortly before the end of the semester, the Riolu evolved into a Lucario. It was with a bit of prodding by Psykes that he learned how to use Dark Pulse, since Psykes seemed to think it would be useful for future paranatural investigation. During this time as well, he started being able to see auras more clearly, to which Psykes found fascinating to study, since Psykes felt this would be useful for possible paranatural tracking.
In combat, Hunter acts as the team's primary melee combatant. He also uses his ability to detect paranormal phenomena, giving the team a secondary tracker in case they need to split up to search a wider area. Being the team's primary melee combatant doesn't mean he's weak in using his ranged attacks through the techno-Dread Plate. Still, he does tend to act as a melee specialist while his team mates attack from longer range.
Outside of combat, Hunter is more often than not training in the PCA gym or out on the practice field. He also spends some time with Psykes, working on helping him research Aura as well as other scientific pursuits. He's not very good with the actual science or technology that Psykes works on though. Still, he is a very cheerful person, who finds joy in being part of a group of friends working together on Psykes' paranatural research. In some situations, he can be a bit reckless, wanting to jump into situations instead of hanging back to investigate from afar. Haunted house? He's the one who'll jump at the chance to check it out. Oddities out on a weird island? He'll be the first one on the boat to go take a look. So don't be surprised when the Lucario rushes forward while the others hang back.
Name: Natsumi Ina
Age: 17
Species: Ninetails
Type: Fire
Ability: Flash Fire
Item: Techno-Dread Plate
Sex: Female
Class: Sophomore
Team Position: Spirtualist/Paranormal Investigator
Moves:
Year 1: 1: Will-o-wisp 2: Flamethrower 3: Extrasensory 4: Confuse Ray
Year 2: 1: Calm Mind 2: Dark Pulse 3: Protect 4: Ominous Wind
History & Notes:
Natsumi Ina grew up just outside Lavender City in the Kanto region. Her family runs a small shrine near the Pokemon Tower, serving as Shinto priests at the shrine. Early on in her life, Natsumi learned quite a bit from her parents about spirits. As she grew up, a pair of will-o-wisp fire spirits started to follow her around, eventually becoming a pair of companions to the young spirtualist. For the longest time, she didn't have much desire to go into a combat academy, but her parents eventually convinced her that spending a few years at a respected educational institution would help expand her experiences.
Before she left for the PCA, she went through an ritual evolving ceremony with her parents accompaniment. Along with her her evolution, her father helped teach her a few new techniques she could use while away at school. And so she left for Viridian City, taking with her a few belongings, and her spirit friends, who she had named Willow and Wisp.
By the time she did enter the PCA, she already qualified as a Sophomore, having spent most of her Freshman year in a school in Lavender City and training with her parents. Since she was new to the school, she decided to find a team, since part of her parents' wishes were for her to expand her experiences. After a series of team interviews, where she found spots had already been filled by other students, she found herself in front of a newly formed team who were looking for a 4th team member, Team Paranormal.
In combat, Natsumi plays a a supporting role. With her knowledge of spirits and paranormal phenomena, she can assist Psykes in areas he may not know as much about, allowing her to act as a secondary strategist for the team. If she needs to use her flamethrower attack, she'll tend to call Willow and Wisp to light her aflame, to help kick in her Flash Fire ability.
Outside of combat, Natsumi provides information to Psykes and the rest of the team from a spiritual angle and not from a scientific one. The others maybe rooted in technology and science, but she's got both her feet firmly in the door of mysticism and spirits. She's not demeaning to the others, just that she enjoys providing the others with a point of view they might not have seen. Psykes seems to find her both a bit odd and fascinating, since she's not technically minded but is deeply rooted in working with and around spirits. If there's something Psykes doesn't know about paranatural stuff, then Natsumi very well might.
EQUIPMENT:
Name: Techno-Dread Plate Backpack
Information:
Based around several pieces of random technology cobbled together around an actual Dread Plate, the Techno-Dread Plate Backpack provides each team member with a tool to focus Dark-based ranged attacks. The system itself actually draws upon the user's Dark-based power, focusing it inside a particle accelerator, through the actual Dread Plate inside, and then projected outward from the backpack's handheld particle thrower. In normal use, the system makes the user feel like his Dark powers are being suppressed, but in actuality it's just focusing the power.
Other powers can be focused through the backpack, although only Dark-based attacks are improved through the system of wires and cables and technology. While this effect may seem a bit unnecessary, it does provide the user with a multi-purpose tool without the need to put the particle thrower down to use other ranged attacks. Psykes uses no less than 5 different attacks through the backpack system, proving it's usefulness in multiple situations.
Name: PKE Detector
Information:
A Poke Kinetic Energy (PKE) Detector provides a user with Detect to focus his power to search for specific paranatural occurances. Since the PCA has a multitude of psychic and ghost types around, as well as many other unique occurances, the PKE Detector helps the users cut down on this background interference on campus. For folks who do not have the Detect power, it does provide them with some useful information on the general area, but work best in the hands of someone who knows Detect.
The PKE Detector comes in two versions. One is a handheld use that is useful wider areas of search, while the second is a pair of multi-vision goggles which are more useful in close in areas where range is not required.
Name: Tobin's Spirit Pokedex
Information:
Tobin's Spirit Pokedex is an item that Psykes uses as part of his main paranormal research library. It has an extensive list of paranormal information in a simple to use Pokedex format. Need to find out who the 5th Century Haunter is that's terrorizing the local subway? Check it out in this Pokedex.
Some entries in the Pokedex are possibly completely worthless, possibly because the entries are not complete or are bogus, but the parts that are relevant to Psykes can be quite invaluable. This is one item that tends to be with Psykes at almost all times.
