Toughest choice of a Linux user
Something that had to be done. Why? I have no idea! Figured it would be fun to do a little something for other Linux users in the community. I've also been wondering whether I can draw characters other than the ones I'm used to, granted I never actually went ahead and tried it... with this I answered myself a solid yes.
Characters from left to right:
- Tux, Linux: http://linux.org
- Geeko, openSUSE: http://opensuse.org
- Konqi, KDE: http://kde.org
- User, Real Life INC.

My own preference would be right-to-left: The reason I enjoy Linux so much is thanks to KDE being such a great desktop environment, very polished and feature complete and high quality... also he's an adorable dragon! Then openSUSE is by far my favorite distribution of all, it achieves so much using only open-source software. Then of course Linux itself is the base of it all.
I may be a weird one but i ended up going with MATE for some reason, i do not recall why... however i am running a dual boot because of the things that still requires windows to operate... such as most of my games, Can't wait til linux becomes supported by game developers
Over that, silly stuff, quite so silly stuff indeed, i approve of it

I ran dual boot between Windows XP / Vista / 7 and openSUSE for many years, during which I only used Windows and just booted into Linux to look at how it works. Sometime in late 2012 I booted into openSUSE again, to see if I could find alternatives for most of my activities, and frankly I just stayed there afterward! I only booted into Windows again to run a few more errands, then I believe an year later I removed it altogether. I honestly couldn't be happier, and at least this distro offers anything you could want when moving from Windows... less for perfect support to all commercial games, but I mainly play FOSS ones so no big deal for me.
At the end of the day, you should use what you like most and feel is best for you. It's also fair to say that back when I moved to openSUSE (some 5 years ago), it and Linux in general were a bit more buggy and hard to work with overall... for instance the free video drivers could barely run any 3D games, you had to install the proprietary ones which had their own issues, but nowadays they're just as good (for AMD cards especially). You might want to give it another try... openSUSE especially is very welcoming and feature complete, especially if you come from Windows.
My biggest problem was how complex everything was,
and how when asking for help, I was always talked down to
by a bunch of snobby elitist Linux-douchebags,
and in the end when I spend over a month (literally)
trying to get my wacom tablet working and it could not
make my cursor reach all parts of the screen.
I again asked for help, and all of a sudden the "know-it-all brigade"
said it was impossible as of now, which made me go nuts
cause what was with that "EVERYTHING is possible on Linux" attitude?!
And that's where I quit and deemed Linux not worthy of my time

Ah. Yeah, that sounds bad. Don't hate the software itself for a few people in the community being bad though: There are all sorts of people, just like in any community... there are some bad apples here on FA too for instance. And I also have a simple Wacom tablet, but thankfully it's always worked well for me in GIMP... which is what I draw this and all else in
The anti-generalization warning feels even more obligatory here. Because holy hell, not all Linux users are like those people! Like I encourage people to use my distro too because I love it, but I'm no nazi about it... also I acknowledge when it has issues, such as the fact that a GPU lockup shuts down my machine daily for two weeks now!
Oh yeah sorry, I was trying to not make sound like everyone got like that. Was just saying it is easier to stumble on jerks the more you get into distros people feel elite for using. Honestly I've never really known any of them, but i have heard the horror stories of people running into them. I would say it has gotten better in recent years. Heck the people of Linux from Scratch, a build your own linux with a book you have to follow were like super nice even on "dumb" questions.
Ahh sorry about those lock-ups, hope the issue is resolved soon.

Don't worry, I wasn't referring to you. It's just a lot of people mention quitting Linux after encountering someone in the community who's acting like an ass, either being a distro nazi or insulting everyone who uses Windows or something else. This is a sad reason to quit a fantastic range of operating systems over.
And thank you. I just installed a huge bunch of updates including x11 and ATI drivers, so we'll see if the problem managed to hang on through that.
