In this second installment of collaboration pieces, I worked long-distance with liturgical composer and organist Sally Daley. It's no longer unusual for people to long-distance collaborate on music or art, but the processes were largely uncharted back in '94 when CD "Worlds Apart" was completed. This piece is from that project. Sally and I each own ESQ-1 and Mirage systems which allowed us to work with internal sounds and on-board sequencer, download to 3.5" disk, send it by U.S. mail (at that time between Chicago and San Diego) load up the sounds and sequences, add to, download, send, and repeat until a piece was finished. To this day, I've not met Sally in person, but we worked on and completed an entire other CD together after Worlds Apart.
In this particular instance, Toccata, we each had our turn only once. She sent me a staccatoed lead, and I chose a voice for it, and embellished with accompaniment. Done.
