Marcus Randal Hayse II, eldest member of Clan Hayse and one of only a handful of survivors that escaped the total destruction of their village as well as the near-genocide of his people back on Jade-Realm, is a master of Nightclaw ninjutsu, kenjutsu and taijutsu. After moving the last of his family to Earth-Realm, he endeavors to keep what remains of the Nightclaw nindo intact by becoming Sensei to the youngest living Nightclaw werelapin, his granddaughter, Cassandra Marie Hayse.
This takes place in the past, exactly one year into Cassandra's training in the ways of the Nightclaw (making her only 14 yrs of age). Her youthful stature is reflected in her shorter height, her less developed figure as she is just beginning to blossom into womanhood and short hair which is a far cry from the length it will come to be. The setting is noon day upon a high, stone plateau surrounded by trees, deep within the mountains of China.
