I guess he figured out a way to make himself an actual lizard without the mind transfer. This makes me think of that "human hole wall" comic where the people who are drawn into it say "This is my hole! This is meant for me!" In this situation I guess he'll say along the lines of "I can't live like a human anymore." or something like that.
