wow, excuse you, i am an herbivore and it is very very carnovarchist of you to assume i would just eat any small animal nearby
while i will SOMETIMES eat a small animal nearby for a PROTEIN SNACK, i only eat PLANTS for actual FOOD, and therefore it is incorrect of you to assume i would eat such a thing as a small bird i found

don't get too excited about this kind of servitude tho
the forest king is very hands off unless you break your geis and your orders are basically uh
basically servants do whatever they decide to do
they putter about the wilds doing animal things or extorting other animals
digging in gardens
most servants live short animal lives it's only the exceptional ones who become something more and get involved in local magic animal politics (which are still mostly fights about if the trailcam feeder is taboo or not, how much road has to be present to change something from Wild to Town, and what's for dinner)

i mean, when you're a servant of the forest king, that IS important issues
consider, a trail-cam is Town magic, which is alien and incomprehensible to the Wilds, and extremely contrary to Forest magic. BUT, the trail-cam is a kind of Town magic that means humans put out food there, and only rarely sometimes kill whoever is standing there! but sometimes you might get killed! and also it's an incursion of Town magic into the Wilds, which is the forest king's domain. if we allow it here, now, will it blossom into larger Town magic? will it start taking over the Wilds? will we suddenly find ourselves near a trail-cam at an important moment, and, so close to the alien weight of Town, find our forest magic fails to work?
hard-liners who think Town incursions need to be nipped in the bud want trail-cams forbidden. others, who think taking things from humans is fine, are like, eh, let it riiiiiiide

Wow, I never realized the potential danger in trail cameras and other manifestations of Town, maybe I'm not cut for politics.
(This reminds me of how there have been some construction going on around here lately and the local roe deer seem to mostly walk across a specific part of the new road - telling by the hoofprints in the snow. Perhaps there was a deer path once, but now it's gone.)

no, that's fine, opossums traditionally operate in the liminal spaces between Wild and Town and most of them don't actually fall under the Forest King's jurisdiction
i go into Town sometimes and eat gardens, too, I mean, that's fine
it's more the issue of Town invading Wild; not only the normal issues of interrupting generations-old trails, territories, feeding places, and the issue of roads murdering things and then just sort of leaving it out for buzzards? but the issue of restricting places where the Forest King has reign and where his magic can reach which he doesn't like, like, trust me
the other day i was hanging out and this squirrel made of firefly glow and damp moss came up to me and was like "hey meeting" and i was like what no and i had to go though and it was like a couple of us and there was this person who was making a house in the middle of the woods and it was like, jeez, that's like, right on the path i take to the pond, that sucks, and the emissary was like, okay make this human stop making the Wild into Town and it was like, ugh
i suggested eating their garden but they didn't have a garden yet so i was kind of out of ideas but this nice coyote was like "okay let's spook em and make them think it's not safe and there are predators" so i got to jump around on the roof of their bower and they got really scared so that was fun but i don't think they're leaving? also someone got shot but we had a sunlit and they were able to heal the wound so it was like, you know no one wants to die on forest king business because it's just such a HASSLE like, you already are in so much danger from so many things so when you have to do extra work you don't want it to COUNT if you die you know?

i mean most animals in the Wild aren't either like
this is just a thing that happens if you're really unlucky like i was
