Well, I can only say what I have learned in school, haven't dug into it deeper as of yet. It had its ups and downs, but since the downs were outweighing the good we had to try a separation back in 1848. And the aftermath wasn't pretty with Haynau's terror. As for the Habsburg family, the ones we got as rulers weren't really that great since they mostly just took advantage of us with taxing and such.
