Disclaimer : This fanfic was supposed to be a comic, but you know me, I'm lazy, so have some reading instead. This is a M X F fanfic about younger Griddle back when she was Princess Griddle and Sir Herman, how they fell in love after their arranged marriage. I should really draw about them, this is a ship I actually love as much as Flame X Flicker.
Sir Blaze slammed open the door while Queen Griddle was following him, running a bit as her legs were shorter than her very tall son's and as she was much fatter.
"Momsy, I told you no !" he annoyingly said to his mother.
"Dear, you will get married to a young noble -and rich- female, whether you like it or not ! So would you prefer a ball or a day all the young rich noble women would come and present themself ? Or speed-dating ?"
"NONE OF THOSE !" he turnt to her.
She angrily crossed her arms.
"Blaze, you are a prince", she explained, "princes must marry. Plus I want to be a granny !"
"But momsyyyy", he whined, "you know I am gay !"
"And ?", she shrugged with a playful smile, "I ask you to marry a woman, not to care for her. Nothing will prevent you to cheat on her with some beefcake."
"Aaargh, you don't want to understand !" and he turnt his back to her.
He still didn't tell her he was secretely dating Sir Burnevere and wanted to marry him only, even if it were impossible.
Queen Griddle sighed.
"My son, do not you want to have children ?"
"I... Maybe, but the idea of having to make one with a woman... Uuurgh." he shivered with a disgusted face.
"And do you want our family's legacy to stop with you ?"
"No, but..."
"Look, marriage is only a contract. Do not think of the girl, only of the political advantages and of the children you could have."
"Mother, why ? First you made that tournament for Flame 2 years ago, and now it's my turn ?"
"I do this for your own good !", she rose a tone, "She is the king's daughter, her future husband will be king too, I don't want her to be a spinster ! Plus, same reasons for you : princess or prince, politic, money and grandchildren. And keep in mind, this is how things are supposed to be. It was my case."
"Oh please, you chose to marry step-daddy because he was the king and you saw an occasion to be a queen at last after all of those years of jealousy toward your brother and to give me a future !"
"I do not mean your step-father. I mean your father."
He frowned.
"What ? I thought you loved him ?"
"I did, and I think I still do." she twiddled her fingers "But, not immediatly. You see, it was an arranged marriage too. Because I was a princess, and my mum thought the same thing as I am thinking of now for you and your step-sister. Because it's normal, I understand now. I didn't agree either, but now I am a mother and a wife, I understand she was doing the right thing for me."
"Why repeating those archaic traditions if you yourself didn't agree ?" Blaze rolled his eyes.
Grirdle growled, gritting her teeth.
"What I am trying to tell you is you wouldn't be there, and that after all I ended up to fall in love with him anyway despite his age so maybe you will happen to be besties or even happen to be bisexual for your future wife ! End of discussion !"
She turnt on her heels and left, trampling loudly. Blaze sighed with a mixt or annoyance, sadness and anger.
As she was trampling through the castle fuming with rage, she passed cross her late husband's portrait, Sir Herman the Nearsighted ; she loved him so much she convinced her new husband to put his portrait in the throne room facing the Square Table -there was even another portrait of him in the corridor. She stopped in front of it, and contemplated it with progressively calming down, and progressively saddening. As his body had never been found, she only had those 2 portraits for long. And then, some months ago, Sir Blaze, Sir Loungelot, Sir Burnevere and Flicker came back with his shield. It gave her another relic of him, but she still wanted him to have a grave on which she could come. Also, as she found out Dwight didn't steal his shield and glasses but that Herman willingly gave them to him, she had sadly smiled and rolled her eyes, it was really him. But she later rethought and would have wanted him to resurrect to strangle him ; why did he give him his glasses and lost himself in sea ?! Why ?! Sometimes he was a bit too distrait, she remembered it.
She essentially missed him. She touched the portrait and sighed.

It was a big day -as big as the queen !- in Queen Mum's (whose real name was Monmouth but she was ashamed of it) kingdom, Coalmeliard. Today was a tournament day she had organised to find a husband for her daughter and second child, the beautiful and moody Princess Griddle. She wanted to find her a husband, a rich or famous one if possible, so the reputation of the queendom would become stronger, the family would be richer, her daugther would be in a good situation, and she would finally be a grandma. But her 26-years-old daughter had been against it for a long moment, rawring and protesting. Until Queen Mum reminded her the knights who would come to fight for her would young and hunky, and that even if there were fat or ugly one, they would probably lose. Griddle immediatly got enthusiastic and made herself beautiful for the occasion.
It wasn't the first try. When Griddle was 24, a first tournament was settled, but a war started and nobody came. At 25, Mum made a ball, but balls are not as effective as tournaments when it comes to seduce a damsel. She
The princess was sitting on her reserved seat, looking everywhere around her. She was a bit nervous. The crowd of commoners and nobles was growing, most of them having snacks with them for the show ; chips, sodas, sandwiches, BBQs, etc. She got a bit hungry at the smell, but she contained herself. If she got to taste something soon, it would be her future's husband's man meat. She drooled at the idea.
(Note of the writer : I AM SO SORRY BUT I HAD TO MAKE THAT PUN)
Unfortunately, she saw a hunk approaching her. But she hated him. Her douchebaggy 2-years-older brother, the heir to the throne she wanted out of ego, Prince Aglowvaine. She growled and looked away. He sat on his reserved eat, theirs were separated by the huge one for their mother. He leaned a bit in direction of his little sister with a mocking smirk.
"So Griddle", he called, "ready to be linked to a man forever and not be allowed to see somewhere else and he would be allowed to treat you like shit if he wants to because we live in Middle Ages ?"
"Shut up Aglowvaine", she said not looking at him, "this is a day just for me, a great day, and you will not annoy me."
"Hehe, sure, if you want."
He leaned on his back in his seat, crossing his legs and loosily putting his hands behind his nape.
"But after all, it's normal mum wants to find you a husband so quickly, after all, I am the Heir and you are the Spare, she gotta make something of you so you could be useful at least once in your life."
She prevented herself from punching. If the beefcakes who were supposed to fight for her came in the arena just when she would lose control and beat her brother, they might get scared and turnt off. She needed to remain lady-like. She was still turning red-faced.
"Where is your wife ?" she asked to change subject.
"Calida ?" he said rising an eyebrow, surprised she didn't attack him as he wanted to.
He changed behaviour and became genuinely happy.
"She couldn't come, she's 6-months pregnant now, she is very tired. Oh boy, I cannot believe I am going to be a father !..."
"I hope he or she will take from the mother."
"Oh, yes, she is beautiful, it would be- HEY !"
Griddle chuckled evilly. He glowered and growled, but he stopped himself, breathed in, and took his snarky look again.
"Is it me or did your butt get fatter ?"
He knew it would be too much for Griddle. As soon she heard it, she jumped on him and started to hit him with her fists while he was kicking and slapping her. But they got interrupted by a huge shadow that made them look up. Queen Mum was there, and she wasn't happy. She grabbed the 2 adults, each in a hand, by the wings, and they looked at her with a forced innocent toothy smile.
"Children", she said in a severe tone, "you are in front of your subjects. Aglowvaine, you will be king after me. Griddle, you are the star of the day. Be examples, you two."
"Yes mummy !..." they said.
She put them back on their seats and sat on hers between them. Griddle sticked her tongue out to Aglowvaine who gave her the bird, both discretely.
A trumpet blew which made Griddle turnt in excitement to the arena. Many young, handsome, strong, sexy, muscled, and rich knights in shining armor on fake horses entered. She leaned on the border of the royal's balcony and whistled.
"HUBBA HUBBA ! Hey there studmuffins, want all of this ?" she swayed hips with bedroom eyes.
"Griddle !" Queen Mum scolded "Behave !"
"Aw... right mum...", she sat back with a disappointed pout.
As the knights and princes were all entering the arena and their squires were helping them cleaning up their shields and polishing their joust, an older one, in age to be their father, passed under the royal balcony, eating on an apple while humming to himself. He caught the queen's eyes who recognized him.
"Sir Herman the Nearsighted !" she happily exclaimed which made him stop and turn to her "You are back from your quest ?"
"Oh, greetings my majesties." he bowed with a smile, making his glasses fall on the ground, which he clumsily put back "Yes, I am as you can see. I slayed the Beast of Cornwall and freed the local people from its terror. Also I bought a beautiful shirt with suiting shoes, I will sooooo have to show it to you later ! Oh, Princess Griddle ? Congratulations for today, the best only starts now !"
"Thank you, thank you." she mindlessly answered, too busy oggling at the machos.
Sir Herman was her best knight and a good friend she absolutely admired. Despite his age and his fragile appearance, he was actually very agile, strong, quick and brave, and succeeded in all the quests he got since the day she knighted him, 25 years ago ; she regretted her kids looked down at him and never interracted with him as they didn't care about chivalry at all, good thing he was very nice and patient and tolerated all the times they turnt their back to him. So then, on this day... She got an idea.
"Did you have something in mind ? And did you get engaged, lately ? You are 50, it would be high time for the hero you are to settle down at last and have a legacy."
"Oh, I was just going to sit on the crowd to watch, as you can see this is my lunch." he answered showing his bitten apple "And no, nothing for now. Yes, I know, the clock is tickling, but eh, my main goal in life is to protect others, so as long I fight for justice I am glad. Why ?"
"Well..." she cooed rubbing her hands together "I think there's room for one more knight."
Herman swallowed his apple bit in a loud gulp with a pale face while Griddle fell from her chair.
"WHAT ?" the princess yelled.
"Honey, why not ?" the mother asked "He is a hero and he is very nice, I would trust him as a son-in-law -haha it's funny to call him this way I only am 2-years older- plus he would not necessarily win, look they're all young and stronger, it's just for the fun, to see him doing something again. No offense, Herman."
"N-no problem, my Queen... But-" he gupled "I did not plan this... Plus she is too young for me..."
"YES YES LISTEN TO HIM MUM LISTEN TO HIM !" Griddle begged with an alarmed look and praying hands.
"My daughter, I didn't tell he would win. It's just like, Russian roulette. Only one chance out of 20. Same goes for you, Herman, do not worry. It's just for fun."
"Hem... OK... I guess ?..." he said unsure "I didn't plan this at all... Hem... OK, let me just take my equipment."
He threw the apple on the grass and indicated to the princess to lean her head to him with his finger, and he went to her ear.
"Your highness", he whispered, "I do not wish to marry someone who could be my daughter in age, especially if she doesn't want, which is obvious from you. I will try my best to lose without being suspected ; I still have my honor."
"Well, alright", she answered, a bit more reassured, "thank you for telling me, Sir Herman."
He just winked and left. But Aglowvaine saw the wink.
"Ooh, he talked dirty to you ?" he snarked.
"Less dirty than your existence you moron." she said through her teeth.
After she saw her favorite knight arriving in the arena with a bored look, his joust, his infamous shield and his fake horse (which was a very pretty decorated fake horse or rather mare) ignoring the curious looks from his rivals, the queen got up.
"Ladies and gentledragons, thank you for having come to the Tournament that will give my daughter Princess Griddle a husband, like I found mine, her and her brother's father, the late Prince Consort Flare. RIP, my dear, I am sorry I turnt while sleeping and crushed you, I will always be. The tournament is the last moment before the wedding, which will take place tomorrow afternoon, whoever the winner is. Good luck, milords, play fair !"
She sat back and saw her daughter looking stressed, nomming on her claws.
"Nervous, honey ?" the queen asked.
"A bit..."
"Aw, do not worry", she smiled at her, "even if you don't like the winner, be sure he'll better be nice to you or I'll be there to show him. And think of children. This is why you and Aglowvaine are here."
Griddle smiled up at her, while Aglowvaine gagged.
The first 2 knights who would fight positionned themselves. But one could notice they were staggering... In fact, Herman noticed and looked around him, the other participants were starting to grow pale or greener than they were already.
Then, as the two jousters started to run to each other (in a weird way), one fell on the ground. And the other stopped, looking at him in a surprised way, but loudly farted and fell too. The queen got up, so did her children, especially Griddle whose stress grew again. Actually all the knigths fell one by one, in loud farts, sometimes firey farts, one even vomitted. All... but Herman who stood there, astonished and awkward, surrounded by the deadly sick hunkies. And not just them. Almsot all the crowd was too, making panic the royal family, thinking terrorists casted a curse.
The doctors soon arrived, and soon told the Queen what was the problem : food intoxication, they all ate something that almost killed them all.
And what was it ?
The meat in the BBQ and the sandwiches was rotten. Those who hadn't eaten it were the only ones in shape. All the knigths ate the meat as it was in their athlete diet, while Herman just ate an apple.
"This is awful... Will they survive ?..." Mum asked with worry.
"Do not worry your highness", a doctor said, washing his hands, "fortunately we are dragons, we have a good digestive system."
The two royal siblings watched all of this from their seats, both baffled and disgusted, and Griddle being disappointed to see all of those beecakes losing in manliness and sexiness.
"Well..." Queen Mum pondered "Does this mean..."
Her eyes shone all of sudden. A spark of a realization, and joy. She immediatly ran (making the earth shake) to her chair and lifted her arms.
"Well, as all the knights are all KO but one, I declare Sir Herman the Nearsighted winner of my daughter's hand !"
At the same time, the two concerned screeched in horor :
"WHAAAAAT ?!!?"
She jumped again out of the balcony (making an Earthquake in China) and ran to him with lifted arms, not only the poor knight was trying to make up his mind after the announcement about a result he didn't expect and didn't want, but he suddenly felt tiny and intimidated as he saw the dragoness as big as a whale approaching at a dangerous pace.
"IN MY ARMS, MY SON-IN-LAW !" she said as she bear hugged him, almost strangling and crushing hil.
She mindlessly walking closer to the royal seats. She lifted her forefinger to the sky.
"Tomorrow, you shall marry my Griddle, she couldn't dream better husband !"
Her back was facing her children, and as she was hugging Herman, he could see them over her shoulder. He was face to face with Griddle, who looked absolutely horrified and dead inside, slumpered over her chair, while next to her Prince Aglowvaine was dead laughing, tears running down his face and almost collapsing.
"Sorry..." he managed to articulate despite the lack of air with a look mixing up pity for her, shock for him and suffocation.
Griddle was jawdropped, eyes in direction of Herman's but actually looked soulless, she wasn't looking at him, she was staring in the void. Her mother's words echoed loudly in her head. No... It couldn't be... She couldn't marry an old skinny dragon, not her !
Sir Aglowvaine, calming down a bit wiping away a little tear, leaned to her.
"Welp, I hope for you his hips are solid enough for the wedding night !" he cackled.
She didn't answer nor react. She was not in the right state of mind for those shenanigans.
I am surprised nobody drew or wrote about Queen Griddle when she was younger with Sir Herman. It's so obvious she was in love with him ! Isn't Griman (hehe, the ship name) cute ? They're just a so cute ship, I actually love it as much as Flacker.
I got hit by a huge Griman inspiration yesterday. Expect drawing soon. I will have fun with the other pages ! Not sure if there will be 3 or 4 in total.
