It's been exactly 5 months to the day that I last drew Sally. When I started this one I knew I wanted to dry something a bit more challenging. I tried a very dynamic pose (courtesy of a Leia statue I own) and decided to incorporate a background. While the white outlines helped my previous images pop, I thought a simple color background would have a similar effect here. I think this is my best Sally to date. I'm happy with the body, the hands, the costume, colors, etc. However, I'm most proud of her face. I modeled the expression off of my girlfriend partially. I didn't realize how much she reminded me of Sally until I began this piece so it was great to bring the two together in a way. I love the graceful expression she has and how elegant she looks. I loved this pose because it looks like a Renaissance sculpture. It shows off her physique but creates a memorable image. It's different from anything I've done before but something I'd like to carry into future works. Hope you like it!
Also the reason for the Leia costume is partually self indulgent but also because I think Sally and Leia share many characteristics. It explains why I was so quick to fall for Sally as a character. I've even described her to friends who don't know the Archie comics as the Sonic version of Princess Leia. Funny that they are both Princesses too!
