The Riley/Multimatic, also known as the Multimatic/Riley...
Anyway, the story behind this one could be best summarized as; in light of then the new LMP2 2017 rules and regulations, there would only be a set number of car chassis builders, while all the cars run the same spec motor. In this case a 4.2L V8 with an output of 600bhp.
The whole point is to make things more simple and cost effective in hopes more people can enter in the category. Rather than multiple engine makers and uncertain chassis builders.
Fair enough on some end, and of course it was also all aimed with a global focus. One LMP formula across the board, and that's been to some limited success so far.
The Riley Mk30 aka the Multimatic is to my understanding, the case of Riley Engineering and Multimatic (Murica and Oh Canada) teaming up, because the LMP 2017 regulations said there could only be 4 car builders, so rather than butt heads, the two North American makers instead pooled their efforts. It may also help that Multimatic has a lot of Lola's assets (sucks Lola is dead).
But even so, the car, along with it's competition, including the new Daytona Prototype interntationals (which are now based on the LMP2s rather than being a different beast like the old cars...would they be considered Gen 4?), are relatively new far as actual racing goes.
Hell, the Riley Gibson used by VISITFLORIDA barely had any laps on it, and the fact it was able to finish 3rd overall (a lap down from the winning DPi Caddys that were the best prepared out of everybody it seems), is an achievement in itself.
I think I'm only really interested in this car out of all the other LMP2 prototypes, along with the Mazda DPi it's based off of because part of me wants to see a North American manufacturer at least have a shot at some kind of global racing presence. But it'll be easier said than done because it's a very new car, it's far from the fastest, and it's up against 3 other makers whom are no strangers to building race cars either.
That said, neither Riley nor Multimatic are new to the race car building scene, so...we'll see.
Even though I kept going at this again, and again...and AGAIN to not fuck this one up, I may end up re-doing it anyway since there's still a lot to improve on.
