Several hundred years ago, Lancer saved Slate's life. Several hundred years in the future, Lancer will meet Slate for the first time. At this moment, Slate will repay his debt, for Lancer, however, he will have to trade his left arm and left eye. But, thanks to future medicine and technology, that which was lost was replaced. Slate then recruits him into his own small fighting force. While the his faction carries out the task of ensuring stability in his small part of the galaxy, it is Lancer's job to make sure the timeline leading to these events remains uninterrupted.
During his time, time travel is very possible, but not commonplace. Most time machines available are fairly primitive (by their standards), and are about as big as a three bedroom house. This makes it easy for the various governments on the various worlds and space colonies to regulate.
However, there are a few time machines not accessible to the public that are much smaller. While most of these smaller TM's are still fairly bulky, and require a minimum of two people to operate. While the smallest mass produced (so to speak) TM's can be carried around in a 50lb backpack.
Lancer, however, has the smallest time machine created (during his present) integrated into his arm. This has given him fairly unique powers. While it can be operated manually via the display screen, he is also able to access these powers neurally.
His eye allows him up to 10000x zoom, see infrared, night vision, and it gives him a unique look, that is, compared to those without one.
His only other piece of gear is a standard issue K771 Pulse Rifle.

Backstory aside, I am very happy with how this turned out! I've had the character concept in my mind for almost half a year now, but every other time I've tried to draw him, it just turned out to be crap in my eyes. But now.... God I love this!
If for some reason it shows the slightly not finished version (whitespace on the lower right), then refresh the page.

The force itself isn't established until the year 2637. Even then, it is against the universal code to kill or displace any being not from the present, as it could drastically alter the timeline. The only exception is if the person is about to die, and would die anyway within minutes of intervention. This little loop hole will actually come into play later with another character and Lancer.
